"Oh, of course it's your brother!" Cloud said.
Jace nodded.
"Does that mean you want a little brother?"
Jace nodded again, his eyes lighting up.
Cloud faced me. "I rest my case."
I let out a half-laugh, half-sigh as a feeling of warm happiness seeped through my body. How could I say no to the adorable smiling faces of my two favorite people in the world?
"Hey, I never said it was off the table," I reminded Cloud, who sidled up next to me and pressed an appeasing kiss to my cheek. "But not right away. Give me a few months. Deal?"
Cloud's eyes sparkled the same way Jace's did. "Deal."
"Besides, it's not like Jace is alone. He has lots of cousins his age to keep him company."
Jace was hugging his 'sibling.' Tiny bits of straw stuck out of his hair in all directions.
Cloud grinned. "And Straw Brother."
"Of course. Who could ever forget Straw Brother?"
Laughing, Cloud pulled me in for another kiss. A wave of happiness washed over me the same way it always did when Cloud kissed me, or embraced me, or cuddled up to me at night. Every day with him and our son felt like a warm, fuzzy dream—except this was reality.
And it was perfect.
