Satisfied that Red was taking care of the situation, I snorted. “Do you remember doing things that stupid when you were young?”
“If I did, I’m glad I don’t remember it,” Morgan said, grinning.
Red’s cry rang out: “Ack! No, don’t eat dirt clods either! Why do you all keep trying to put crap in your mouths?”
I raised an amused brow at Morgan, who shot me the same expression on his handsome face.
“Think we should go rescue the babysitter?” I asked.
“If we don’t, they might turn his fur coat into a dirt coat.”
We casually held hands and set off to break up the kids’ dirt party.

The cool eveningwas a welcome reprieve from the heat of the day. Autumn was approaching but the days were still long and hot for now.
Ashe was curled up in front of us in his own patch of long grass and clover. A long day of play with the twins had tuckered him out. My heart swelled every time I looked at our son.
“Say,” I murmured to Morgan. “In the fall, areyougoing into rut like all the other deer?”
My mate arched a brow at me. “Are you trying to insinuate something?”
“No insinuation. Just wondering.”
Morgan smiled. “No. Deer shifter cycles aren’t exactly the same as natural deer. We can essentially get pregnant at any time during the year. Being in heat simply speeds things along.”
“I see.”
With a playful huff, Morgan leaned closer to me. “Why?”
I smirked and caressed his cheek, enjoying the pleasant scratch of stubble against my palm. “No reason. I told you, I was just curious. I have no ulterior motives of wanting more kids, if that sets your mind at ease.”
Morgan let out a relieved sigh before resting his head on my shoulder. “Good. I was worried you wanted to knock me up again.”
The thought made me shiver and I growled, “Well, if you put it that way, it gets me all excited.”
“No. Make the guy in your pants behave.”
I laughed softly to avoid waking Ashe. “Done. I’ve put him away.”
Morgan found my hand and slipped his fingers between mine, then let out a deeply content sigh. “I am glad about the one we made, though. He’s perfect in every way.” He chuckled. “Even when he gets into trouble.”
“Especiallywhen he gets into trouble,” I corrected.
“True.” Morgan raised his head so he was looking at me. His eyes were bright and shining with emotion. “Thank you. For everything you’ve done.”
I growled quietly and ran my free hand through his hair. “Don’t thank me. It was fate that brought us together, Morgan.” I pressed a soft kiss to his lips. “And besides, you’ve done just as much for me as I’ve done for you.”
“Fine,” Morgan said with a laugh. “You never could just accept a compliment, could you?”
“Nope.”
“Stubborn wolf.”
“You love me.”
He licked his lips before gently nibbling my lower lip. “I do,” he murmured, fluttering his long dark lashes at me.
I blushed, then kissed him deeply. “Feeling’s mutual, my little buck.”
