Jake’s expression changed to one of cold hurt. “Rafael told me everything. About your ex. I know the reason he ran away.” He crossed his arms, making himself smaller and tighter. “Sorry.”

My jaw dropped in utter disbelief. Jake knew, and Rafael hadtoldhim. A sickening sense of betrayal churned in my stomach.

But more than betrayal, I felt fear - a deep terror that flooded my veins with panic. Why hadn’t Jake discussed this with me? I was part of this, too. It wasn’t a decision he should have made alone. Was I nothing to him? Was I just going to be thrown aside again?

He doesn’t want a baby,my brain reminded me, recalling all the times he’d said so himself. He’s going leave, just like Heath did.

“I can’t be here,” I mumbled, my voice shaking.

“What?” Jake cried. “Griffin, no, you can’t go!”

Letting myself get close to Jake was a huge mistake. I couldn’t let this happen all over again. I refused.

I turned and ran out of the bathroom.

He’s going to leave you no matter what,my mind repeated. In the end, that’s what omegas always do.

I believed it. I should never have had sex with Jake in the first place. Our entire meeting was a mistake.

I ran past Skylar and out the door, ignoring Jake calling my name. It was only when I pulled up in my own driveway that the gravity of the situation fully hit me. Tears of confusion, betrayal, and pain flowed from my eyes. I leaned on the steering wheel, burying my face in my arm.

The scar that had healed so slowly was now ripped open, raw and agonizing once more.
