“Baby, he’s going to see it one way or another,” Death tells her, and I wonder just how bad it could be.

“If I show it to you, you’ve got to promise not to take it to heart.”

I hold out my hand, and Love slaps the news article in my hand.

Cupidale’s One-Way Ticket to Hell by Harmony Lindt.

I wish I could say good morning to the cupids of Cupidale, but I fear our fine pristine realm is on the verge of collapse. If you attended the Love in the Veil gathering last night you likely came out with the same conclusion as me.

Head Cupid Cupio is running our realm into a dark abyss and I fear there are many cupids who are turning to the wrong direction for love, including our supposed fearless leader. Who has already been under fire due to the allegations of his son’s behavior. How can we expect this man to run our realm when his own life seems endlessly unstable?

My reports indicate that Cupio has been seen not only co-mingling with his long-time assistant, Ladybird (which I’m sure we all have strong feelings about), but a reaper by the name of Gloom. Which has me wondering if our leader’s standards are so low, do we need to set the bar higher?

Reapers are beneath cupids and to date one is to defy the ways of being a cupid and injustice of love itself. Are the harbingers of death even capable of true, unquantifiablelove? I can hardly believe that beings in charge of the worst part of human lives are capable of anything but destruction.

Our own leader can’t find love in the realm he’s built, where’s the hope for the rest of us? An inside source tells me that Cupio has given this reaper access to come in and out of our realm as he sees fit.

Our own leader doesn’t seem to value our rules, so why would anyone else? It’s been cupids in love with cupids for centuries and there has never been a problem, so why are we now outsourcing to other beings in the veil?

The only explanation I can think of is poor leadership and direction. This comes from the top, and if we want to keep Cupidale the realm it has always been, then we need to look at our inner politics.

This cupid suggests we immediately stop the allowance of reapers and other beings in our realm along with new leadership.

I crinkle the paper and put it down.

“All the cupids are going to be reading this?”

Love nods and sits across from me, putting her hand on mine. “It’s all bullshit. It will blow over.”

“What if Cupio reads it and feels like it’s me or his realm?”

“He won’t, Gloom. Harmony is a fanatic. It will all blow over, I promise.”

I pull away from the table, my insecurities of feeling like this was all too good to be true, coming to a head.

“I’m going to get some rest,” I announce, and Love’s face falls.

“I’ll make this right, Gloom.”

I give her a small smile and wonder if that stupid article has enough power to rip the best thing I’ve ever had away from me.

Ihave to toss out most of the pancakes Gloom made; I plate the best looking ones, grab the coffee mug and take them into bed.

Ladybird’s hair is spread all over the pillows as she sleeps with her mouth wide open. I smile to myself and touch her nose.

“Time to wake up,” I say and she groans, turning over.

“We should have the day off after an event like that.”

“Sorry, the Head Cupid is a bit of a dick. It’s not a federal holiday,” I reply and she snorts.

Ladybird turns back over and smiles when she sees I brought nourishment.

“Gloom made it. He also had to go to work.”

She laughs at the stupid mug and scoots up the headboard to take a sip.
