“Of course.”

He smiled. “You don’t know what I’m going to ask.”

She gave her best that’s-what-you-think look. “You want me to promise to hide, or lie low, or whatever, when things get dangerous.”

His deep chuckle soothed her soul. “Something like that.”

“I promise.”

She meant it. And she knew he believed her. Because relief flitted across his face before his gaze shifted. Intosomething solid—his own promise. He would do anything to protect her. She knew it in her heart.

“Thank you.” His voice, deep and husky, barely reached her ears.

She placed her hands on his chest. Felt his heart thudding in quick-step with her own pulse.

Cradling her face in his hands, he pressed his forehead to hers. “I love you, Tayla.”

She smiled. “I know. I love you too.”

His mouth claimed hers with a new fervor she felt all the way down to her toes. His hands pushed into her hair. Her arms wrapped around his neck. The kiss was powerful. Intense. Beautiful. Full of more love than she’d ever felt in her life. And sealed with a promise she could trust.

The rest of the world faded away for an indiscernible amount of time.
