"What's wrong?" Vanessa’s gaze snapped to mine.
"Nothing. Jo just usually responds quickly. She must be busy at the diner. I'm sure she will see it before any of the guys talk to her."
Vanessa didn't look as convinced, but she didn't argue either.
"Everything's going to be fine. I promise." I rubbed her arm up and down. "Jo won't be mad at you, and we're going to figure out who's behind everything. Just you wait and see."
"Thank you."
I gave her a crooked smile. "For what?"
"For being my rock throughout this. I love you, and I can't wait to see where life takes us."
"I love you, too, and it's going to be a great life. Just you wait and see."
EPILOGUE
Maverick
I stomped out of the office and headed straight for my truck. Pissed didn't even begin to describe how I felt in that moment.
Betrayed was a good word.
As it turned out, Jo was just another lying bitch who liked to keep secrets. I don't know why I was surprised. Just because the guys on my team had found the few good women in the world didn't mean that every woman was decent. In fact, most of them weren't, and no amount of time in this small town would change my mind.
I needed to get away. To clear my head and calm down before I did something stupid. I had made a lot of stupid decisions since coming to Willow Creek but no more. Things were about to change, and that started now.
