When we pull apart, a giggle is the only thing I let out. Daniel grins back. “What is it?” He asks me.
“I just got an idea, that’s all.”
His eyes instantly light up. “Yeah? What idea, hm?”
“I’ll show you later”, I peck his lips once more. “We should get going, don’t you think?” I ask, my voice lightly breathless.
His eyes darken as they flicker over my face, then down to the fitted leather hugging my curves. “Fuck, yeah,” he responds, his grip lingering on my body for just a second longer. “Let’s go.”
He softly put my hand into his, both of us making our way towards the garage.
We both know exactly where we’re headed.
My eyes wander everywhere, taking in the nightlife of downtown Chicago as Daniel and I cruise around the city. He told me we’d go to a quiet place, but I’m not sure yet which one.
It excites me. Not knowing where we’re going. Being with him alone makes all this worth it.
A smile is on my lips when he makes a turn, the direction we’re going towards suddenly gets more obvious each second.
“We’re going to Loyola Beach?”, I ask, amazed. In the six years I’ve been living here, I’ve never been there. I’ve always been way too busy.
It breaks my heart a little bit when I remember all those times Mary asked me to take her there. Soon, I will, my baby.
But going there with Danielnow? Oh my god…
I can practically feel my body vibrating with excitement.
Both Mary and I looked at some of the pictures, and although the beach is so near, we never went. I never had enough time.
It's another terrible reminder that the life we live now is so much better than our life before. I sigh inside, not showing Daniel how I truly feel about our trip.
I mean, don’t get me wrong. I’m excited to finally go there—but I’m also hurt. I’ve been a terrible mother.
“That’s right, pretty”, he responds, his smile almost audible. It makes me giggle a bit.
He’s so different
when we’re alone. He’s so soft, so… Calm.
In front of others, he’s always ready to kill. But with me? He lets his guard down completely.
I love it when he does that.
We both know the last week has been rough on him. Hell, onallof us. A few nights before, he mentioned that ever since I’ve arrived here, shit has been goingdown.
Of course, he didn’t go into detail. But he didn’t need to. I know all the shit that happened. The meetings and the things I saw made it obvious. I wouldn’t wish all of that uponanyone.
Just a few minutes after, we stop at a parking lot. I immediately get off, take my helmet off and look towards the beach. I can’t believe I’m finally here.
“Do you come here often?”, I ask Daniel. He turns off his Harley and gets off too. To my surprise, he shakes his head after he takes off his own helmet.
“Not really. I mean, I came here before. With Vicky and Enzo, but… It’s not a thing I do every month. Usually, we come here in summer only. When we have some free time, you know.”
I nod understandingly. It makes sense. It seems a bit cold because of the wind, especially now that the sun is almost gone. But I don’t mind.
All I care about is being here. With him.
“Shall we go?”, he asks me and takes my hand into his. A smile stays on my lips as I nod.
