Jennifer laughs. “Gladly.”

And we do. It’s no secret. I’ve got a massive shower, after all—it’s of good use.

But after breakfast, we have to go our separate ways. She tells me she’ll check on the medical room, restock supplies, clean up a bit, then spend time with her daughter and my nephew.

And me?

That orgasm she gave me in the shower? The last good thing about my day.

Because the second I step into the meeting room—Julian is already waiting for me, his expression dark—and I already know.

My day is fucked.

Nothing could’ve changed that.

Not even Jennifer.

Chapter Thirty-four

Daniel

I walk toward Julian, already knowing what he’s about to say.

“We really tried our best, I swear. But it’s like… this man never existed. We foundnothing.”

His voice wavers, his posture tense—like he’s afraid of how I’ll react. Normally, I’d find that entertaining. But not when it means he turned up empty-handed about my almost-murder.

“We?” My tone is even. “Who’s we?”

“Hayden and I worked until four in the morning, but we couldn’t find anything.”

I nod. It’s good that Hayden was involved. If it were just Julian, I wouldn’t trust a damn word he said.

Even if he works for me.

“I guess you tried,” I sigh. “What about the drug deliveries? Any updates?”

Julian shakes his head. “I was up until five. Woke up half an hour ago. No idea. Seriously, ask someone else, I can’t do all your work."

Ah. There he is—the Julian I was waiting for. Wonderful. He’s pissed. Perhaps sleep deprived.

It fills me with satisfaction. Knowing this asshole worked all night for me while I slept peacefully and had an amazing orgasm afterwards.

Fucking lovely.

“Well. Thanks, regardless.”

I turn and leave the meeting room without another word. He doesn’t stop me. Whether it’s exhaustion or the fact that pissing me off after last night would be a mistake, I don’t know. Either way, he keeps his mouth shut.

I head straight to the warehouse.

First thing in the morning, I need to check on my men, make sure everything’s in place, that the drugs arrived and are sorted accordingly.

When I get there, I spot two of my best men. Thank God.

“Morning, boys,” I greet as I join them.

Hayden grins. “Morning to you, too. Get any sleep?”
