They work fast and efficiently. That’s why I trust them the most with this job.

I start the engine, gripping the handlebars of my Harley. The familiar roar grounds me.

I was wrong before.

That man I tortured… he actuallydidknow something. He tried to tell me. And I didn’t listen.

But it doesn’t matter anymore. Because now? I know exactly who’s behind this.

Lorenzo. My fucking uncle. And I’m going to kill him. I’m going to murder this worthless bastard with my own hands.

I won’t be reckless. I’m not going alone. My men are coming with me—they’ll stay hidden at first, but if things go south, they’ll be there.

I haven’t seen Lorenzo since I was a kid. I don’t remember his face. I don’t know how he thinks, what he does.

But that doesn’t matter. It ends tonight.

Even if he tries to kill me first. Even if I die in the process.

I will make sure he does not walk away from this alive. That’s what you get for killing my mother, you bastard.

Chapter Forty-eight

Daniel

My eyes scan the hallway, my brow furrowing at the address I just drove up to.

A normal apartment building. Too normal.

It’s… confusing. Quiet. Elegant. Too fucking ordinary for the things I’m about to do.

I mean, sure, this could be the perfect place to stay undercover. A normal apartment in a normal neighborhood—it all just makes sense for Lorenzo to hide here. But still.

I stop in front of the his apartment door, but something in my gut makes me hesitate. I know this is the place. I know he’s inside.

So whydoes it feel... off?

It doesn’t matter. I have to do this. I knock, ignoring the warning bells in my head.

Is it dumb? Maybe. He could open the door and put a knife in my throat within seconds. But he’s my uncle.

And I at least want to make this a proper reunion before I put a bullet in his fucking skull.

My hand tightens around my gun as I wait. What if my intuition is right? What if I’m going too fast with this?

Fuck, what if he got a whole group of men in there? What if he set all this up?

For a few seconds, there’s nothing but silence. Then—footsteps.

Quiet but noticeable. They stop right in front of me. My breath holds.

The door opens. And then, brown eyes stare into mine.

And for a split second, I refuse to believe this man—this soft, unassuming-looking man—is the one trying to ruin my life.

But fuck, I can’t let my emotions get in the way. If I keep being this soft, I’m gonna get myself killed.

And that, preferably not by my uncle.
