‘Let us dance, my Queen,’ said Agnar, rising to his feet and offering her his hand. ‘I am sure your mother will feel more excited about the midsummer feast once she’s enjoyed the revelry of this one.’
‘Thank you, Pappa!’ Astra grinned and ran off to giggle her news to her friends.
Skadi rose from her seat and allowed Agnar to lead her into one of the country dances. Soon she was laughing and singing with the rest of her people and her concerns for the future disappeared like smoke.
At the end of the dance everyone cheered and hurried to eat at the many tables now filled with platters of delicious food. Agnar started to walk her towards the nearest table, but she gave a little tug of her wrist and pulled him away, leading him through the rush of the crowds and out into the cold night air.
Agnar grinned, allowing his wife to do as she pleased. As they left, she took him around the side of the hall, just beyond the log store. Turning sharply, she pushed him up against the wall.
‘And…why are we outside in the cold?’ he asked mildly, already moving his hands to stroke down her waist and hips. She enjoyed making love wherever and whenever she pleased and he was always glad to oblige.
Nothing seemed to change the desire between them. Each day, they chose to love one another with passion, trust and respect. It seemed that Vali had been right for once. A happy wife did indeed make for a happy life.
She giggled, and brushed her lips against his in a teasing kiss. ‘You know I love the fresh air.’
Agnar twisted his body, pushing hers against the wall and lifting her leg with one hand to press the hard length of him against her core. She moaned with anticipation and gripped his hair.
‘I know you love this…’ he whispered, trailing kisses down her neck.
‘Oh, yes!’ she gasped, ‘I love this…and you.’
‘As do I, my Queen.’
