“Anyway, they cooked up a plan to double cross Felicia. Carlton is the one who provided Serena’s sample, for lack of a less creepy phrase. She only told Felicia that she ordered one. Then, when Felicia’s sample came, they switched it for another vial of Carlton’s and threw the black market stuff out. That’s why he was willing to lie to help her gain custody. Once Serena was in charge, they could be bonded. That was also how they could be so sure that the DNA test would be a match.”
“Except it wasn’t,” I said softly, brushing my lips over sweet Bella’s wispy hair. “Can you hold her for a sec?”
“Of course.” Kade kissed her little cheek and tucked her to his chest. “What are you talking about?”
I reached into the bag I carried my books in and pulled out an envelope with the Council of Packs Alpha Registry seal in the upper corner. “Mr. Keir gave this to me today.”
Kade reached for it with one hand, still holding the baby with the other, so I opened it and handed the unfolded paper to him.
Kade skimmed the paper, his eyes widened and he stared at me. “Do you know what this means?”
I swallowed hard. “You’re not just Bella’s Daddy. You really are her sire, also.”
A symphony of emotions washed over Kade’s face, but, when they dissipated, he looked overjoyed. “But how?”
I coughed. “I, ah, talked to the nurse and asked about that. She said that if I’d been bred by someone else before my sisters molested me, that the sperm already inside me were probably in the perfect position to take care of business when the birth control implants were removed.”
Kade stared at me and burst into laughter. “So, I left enough behind that it dammed you up, huh?”
I nodded. “That’s what she thinks.”
Kade tossed the paper on the table and reached for me, bringing the three of us into a family hug.
“The two of you are the best things that have ever happened to me,” I whispered against my husband’s chest.
Kade brushed his nosed behind my ear. “And we’re just getting started, baby. We’re just getting started.”
