“I’m starting to feel so much better. But I also think I could use a long nap. How far in my future do I get one of those?”

“I’ll drop everyone off at the meeting point, then destroy this place,” Reid speaks up. “Cibrina’s already moved members to a safe location now that Charles knows we won’t be joining him and the mission failed.”

“Did any other teams make it back?” Fabian asks, and Reid nods.

“Elias’s team is the only one that returned. They’re helping Cibrina move everyone.”

There are only four teams here. Add in Reid’s, Elias’s, and mine, that means we’re still missing three teams—twelve members. Hopefully, they’re in the same location as Aiden.

I grab Reid’s arm. “I need to get to Rae and the others. The last three teams could be with them, too. Where are they?”

His expression darkens. “With Charles.”

Fuck.

“Stay with Cibrina. I’ll get Raegan and the rest of the captured members,” Reid argues before I’ve even said anything.

“Like fuck,” I snap. “I’m helping rescue them, too. Drop the others off, but I’m coming with you.”

“You’re a liability,” he counters, his voice flat.

I grab him by the shirt and yank him close. “Think whatever the fuck you want about me, but I have to be there. Use me as a bargaining chip for Raegan’s life if you have to. Whatever it takes to make sure she gets out of there safe.”

Reid’s gaze pierces mine, holding steady for who-the-fuck-knows what’s going on in his head. Finally, he nods. “Alright.”

“Then, let’s go.”

Chapter twenty-two

Raegan

Idrivetheknifeinto the next agent, ripping the blade through his neck. Another one runs at me, and I spin to meet his attack. My arm is already mid-motion in the swing when the agent I’m attacking suddenly changes to Kell.

Shit!

I let go of the knife and hit him with my empty fist.

Kellan yanks me to his chest just as a bite of pain strikes my hip. He punches the agent who’d attacked me from behind, knocking him back.

Touching my hip, my fingers come back red from a slice that could’ve been a lot worse if Kell hadn’t pulled me away in time.

“Down!” he barks, and I drop. Another agent’s power-imbued disc shoots overhead. I recover my knife from the floor as Kellan leaps after the disc, knocking it down with the length of chain still attached to his wrists.

I take off after the agent while his disc is occupied. He blocks my slash with his arm, and I release the blade to my other hand to thrust it into his gut.

Kellan appears in the agent’s place, taking my knife into his side instead.

“Fuck! Kell!”

He clenches his jaw and wraps his hand around mine, jerking it free with a grunt. “It’s just a scratch,” he reassures me, even as blood drains from the open wound. His gift still hasn’t returned, and he’s exhausted. I need to end this fight before it leaves us too injured to escape. We’d made it out of the room just fine, but we’ve been bumping into agents left and right since getting to the floor where Aiden and Jackson are.

Kell puts the knife back in my hand. I grip it tight. “Can you hold that guy for me?”

He gives me a wolfish grin. “Anything for you, beautiful.”

We run toward the two remaining agents. Kellan throws his chain at the one who keeps switching us around, and it curves and then wraps around his neck. I pivot toward them, where Kell now holds him. The hairs on my neck and arms rise, sensing the powered disc behind me, but Kell bats it down again with the chain on his other wrist.

I raise my hand with the knife, and just as expected, when I’m mid-swing, the guy switches with Kellan. I’d already prepared for it, though, and stretch my arm past Kell to stab the agent before he gets a chance to switch again.
