Maybe it was because I’d known you first, but when our group formed and I stepped up to lead it, I couldn’t let you go. Even when I knew they had feelings for you, I couldn’t step back. I’d rather none of us have you than the possibility that you’d choose someone else.
“And yet, at the first real challenge for your affection, I caved without hesitation. I kissed you first. I knew it was wrong. I’d failed as a leader in that moment, but I didn’t care. Because when it comes to you, I can’t think straight. I become so irrational, so crazed that even I don’t know what I’m going to say or do next. That was warning enough for me to let you go. He cradles my face. “There is no apology, no words that exist to express the regret, the guilt I have for what happened to you because I’d been so selfish. I’d refused to see what was right in front of me because I’d been so focused on denying everything I felt for you. If I could go back in time and fix things... kill Gordon before he ever laid eyes on you...”
I grasp his arm. “Don’t. I don’t want anything to change. We’re all together now. Gordon is dead. You could lose the Guild. Promise me you won’t try messing with the past, Aiden.”
His eyes search mine as if looking for a hint of doubt. But he won’t find any. Finally, he nods. “I can’t promise that I won’t get jealous. That I won’t steal you away from time to time for myself. But I promise not to interfere with you and them. If you want all of us, then that’s exactly who you’ll have. I’ll give you everything for as long as I live. So long as it doesn’t put your safety at risk, it’s yours. I’m yours.”
“I want you alive,” I tell him, my voice hardening with how much I need that. “If you throw yourself in front of a bullet for me again, I’m going to find the way to hell to drag your ass back here. And then I’ll putyouin those damned cuffs and a locked room to see how you like it.”
My words draw a smirk to his lips. “Accurate for you to assume that’s where I’d be.”
I grab him by the neck and shoulder, yanking him down to kiss me. To fuck me against the tile until all our fears are too tired or weak to haunt us, and we can sleep.
