“I have to go, Morgan. There’s nothing for me here.”

“I’m here.”

“Yes, but I need to work. Earn a living. Be somewhere I can put down roots. And quite honestly, I can’t stay here if I can’t be with you.”

“What if youcouldhave both?”

“Your father…”

“Is outside. He wants to talk to you.”

At that moment, Morgan realized everyone in the restaurant was eavesdropping on their conversation, including the waitress, Tammy, who was leaning forward with her forearms leaning on the counter, taking it all in. As Morgan took his hand and led him outside, the diner erupted in applause. Before they could make it across the parking lot to their vehicles, Sean came striding toward them, extending his hand to TJ.

“Sir?”

“I’m sorry about the way I acted the other day. I never should have given you that crazy ultimatum. I’ve got some mighty heavy baggage I’ve been carryin’ around for years, and it got in the way of my good judgement and common sense. It has nothing to do with you or who you are, and everything to do with me and my insecurities. My daughter says you’re a good man, and I already know you’re a hard worker, so that’s good enough for me. Come back to the farm. I need you. She needs you. I only ask that you treat her right. And that you put up with her crazy old dad.”

TJ gave Sean’s hand a firm shake. “I promise to always treat you both with respect. I’m grateful for the opportunity you gave me, and I’m ready to put down roots. Green Springs feels like the right place for me. I’ve felt more at home here over the last few weeks than any other place in the world. And I do love your daughter.”

Had she heard right? He just said he loved her! Morgan squealed with delight and kissed Sean’s cheek. “Thank you, Dad, for doing the right thing. I love you.” She turned toward TJ. “And for the record, TJ, I love you, too.”

She then stepped between them and linked arms with both men. “There’s definitely room for two men in my life. Take me home, boys.”
