“Yes. I paid for the vacation. I remember when you’re going. Don’t worry, I’ll keep it all under control. It’s seven days, we’ll survive.” What I don’t verbalize is my hope that Trey will find someone to release a little steam with on vacation. Trey’s wound so tightly he’s beginning to resemble a jack-in-the-box. I keep waiting for him to pop up and lash out at us.

“You’re right. A little vacation fun is exactly what I need.” Trey rubs his hands together and nods his head toward a returning Mari and I use the chance to escape to Aspen.

The older gentleman has left her side and I sneak in behind her. My chin rests on her shoulder and I wrap my hands around her midsection feeling her flutter at the touch. “Are you ready to go? I’ve been thinking about this dress all night. You should keep it on. It has great access."

“Finn. We’re in public,” Aspen admonishes, but her eyes sparkle as she turns to face me.

I pull her toward the door with a slight wave to Trey on our way out. Our fingers wrap together as we cross into the evening air. “Nonsense.”

I draw her to a stop at the curb waiting for Jake to pull around. My arms wrap around Aspen and pull her closer. Her eyes flicker with amusement moments before our lips connect. It’s not our longest kiss or even our most potent, but it’s the one we'll start a lifetime journey with.
