“I love you, Sunny,” I whisper against her ear, my hand rubbing along the length of her back as her fingers rake through my hair.
“And I love you.”
“I could lie here like this all night with you,” I murmur as exhaustion washes over me. As soon as the words leave my mouth, Baker’s cries come over the baby monitor, and I chuckle at the irony. “Spoke too soon.”
“You jinxed it.” Charley giggles before sitting up.
Stopping her with a hand on her arm, I say, “I got him. You just relax right here, and wait for me to get back.”
“Such a good daddy,” she drawls, her eyes heavy as she watches me round the bed.
After everything we went through when we were younger, I never thought we’d wind up here. And I certainly never thought a one-night stand could lead to such a beautiful surprise and a life I’ve always dreamed of.
I plan to spend the rest of my life reminding Charley how much I love her.
