I let her go, kiss her on top of her head and head toward Trent. “Fine, we'll go shower. Make sure your sister is up and dressed.”
“Not together!”
Trent wraps his arm around my shoulders and steers me out of the room. “Call it payback for kissing Andie last week.”
“Don’t worry, Raven kissed me last night,” Harley yells back. “Andie is just a friend now. So please don’t shower together.”
“How much longer until my brother is born?” Layla asks, her mouth full of pancakes.
“It could be a sister,” Harley says, not looking up from her phone.
“I already have one of those. I want a baby brother.”
“Any day now,” I say, smiling at her.
When we got back from our honeymoon in Hawaii, Maria and Gloria approached us with an offer. They wanted to start a family but didn’t want to use an anonymous donor. Instead, they suggested that they would be willing to carry a child for us if we let them use one of our sperm for their baby. We didn’t even have to discuss it. We had talked about adding to our bunchwhile we were away, and we both agreed. We want a huge family. Maria is currently nine months pregnant—due any day now—with Trent’s baby, and Gloria is four months along with mine.
Gloria and Maria will be the parents of the baby made with my sperm, and we will be the parents of Trent’s baby. We will tell them how they were created when they get older, but until then, we will each be the cool uncles and aunts. Trent has already talked about having another baby, but this time one that will carry my DNA. But I told him that we will have to give it some time because three kids are going to be a lot, and we have our plates pretty full.
I've started another gym in town and am loving owning my own business once again. I still own the apartment building in Cape, but I hardly have to go up there anymore. Trent is back to working in construction but will take time off once the baby is born. He also works long hours for his non-profit, which we finally got off the ground six months ago. Nina’s Voice is doing amazing work in the LGBTQ+ communities and is growing in demand daily. It specializes in therapy, but we’ve also started to fund safe homes for teenagers who find themselves living on the streets due to their family’s inability to be decent human beings. We have visited Nina’s grandmother and her daughter twice. They are family now, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
The trial for Stanley, Jules, Josiah, and the other monsters ended two months ago. None of them will see the outside world before they die, but they deserve so much more. Trent has worked hard on his relationship with Eve, and they are closer than ever. Betty and April still live in Cape, but we also visit them often. Maria and Gloria moved down here after Maria found out she was pregnant.
The Hills have expanded, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. We are now the Hill, West, Haines, Foster, Freely, Telvondy, Aldridge and Anderson-Foster family.
Trent nudges my shoulder and points out the diner window. “Is that your dad with my mom?”
We all turn to look at the couple he is talking about, and sure enough, Dad and Eve are walking into the grocery store across the street. “I wonder what that is all about?” I ask.
“Don’t you know?” Layla says innocently.
“Know what?” Harley says.
We turn our attention to Layla, who has resumed eating. “Grandpa Sonny and Grandma Eve kiss.” She looks up and points her fork at us, “Just like you do.”
The end… or is it?
