I stared at him, my chest cracking under the weight of the love I carried for him. “I’m awed by you, too.” I placed a hand on his chest, right above his heart. “You saved me.” In more ways than one.

His throat bobbed as he swallowed. “Normally, I would argue that fact with you.” His chest expanded under my palm as he pulled in a breath. “But you’re teaching me that I’m more than my failures. I’m so glad I didn’t give up hope, Emy. I’m glad we got you out.”

So was I, but he already knew that.

I pushed up on my toes, my eyes locked on his. “I love you, August Ramsey.”

I had told him this before, but the way he grinned when I said it still made my heart melt.

“And I am in love with you, my beautiful phoenix. I don’t deserve you, but I will cherish you forever.”

I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling myself to him. Then, I kissed him. I kissed him deep, and slow, and long.

He was mine, and I was his. Nothing, not even the fires of hell, were going to keep me from him any longer.
