She pointed her finger at me. “That!”
I looked at Lena on my lap, then at Daniel in confusion. He shrugged his shoulders, clueless, and then got up and strode to join Maxim and his brother. Probably too much action for his tastes.
“Ummm, a baby,” I answered, like it was a trick question. “Your baby?”
“On your finger, Layla!” She squealed. “Oh my gosh, is that what I think it is?”
I sought out Maxim’s eyes. He smiled, a happy gleam in his eyes. He leaned against the fireplace, chatting with his brother and Daniel but his gaze on me.
“I guess, it depends on what you think it is,” I answered.
“Are we going to have another wedding?” Grandpa Caldwell rubbed his hands together, smiling happily.
We just got engaged, and wedding bells weren’t even on my mind. But I knew I didn’t want anything elaborate. Except I didn't know what Maxim wanted.
As if he read my mind, Maxim chimed in. “Layla agreed to become my wife. But we’ll plan our wedding.” Several minutes of Livy’s squealing and happy congratulations, then kissing by everyone, Maxim continued. “And not to worry, everyone here will be invited.”
Some more kissing and happiness going around. My heart felt like it could burst from so much love. This was what it was to have a family.
