Epilogue
VERONICA
Finally, the day for Mackenzie's wedding had arrived. And as much as we strive for perfection, there are still some tiny fires that need my attention to put out, but other than that, it's a beautiful day and a wonderful ceremony.
I was worried that Miles might not be too happy about Mackenzie getting married in the same venue where the event planner nearly broke us up, but after the owners fired him after I reported his behavior, they offered the place for free. Mackenzie thought I would want to save the free day for Miles and me, but I told her that we had different plans for our wedding.
After Miles and I got everything cleared up, Mackenzie was quick to apologize. She realized that she didn't stick around long enough to know the whole story. I told her I understood and that I knew she was just looking out for her brother. She also apologized for how she acted when we were in school. As much shit she put me through, I knew it wasn't a good idea to hold on to the past, especially if she is going to be my sister-in-law.
“Are you officially off the clock?” Miles asks, wrapping his arms around my waist and pulling me back against him.
“Tabitha has taken over the authority for the rest of the evening, so I’m all yours.”
Miles kisses my neck. “You will be all mine in about six hours.”
“Is your family going to be upset that we are eloping to Vegas?” I ask for the hundredth time, needing confirmation from him that I’m not starting off on the wrong foot with my in-laws.
“The only person who will care is Mackenzie, but she will be on her honeymoon by the time she finds out, so she will have time to cool off by the time she gets back.
“I can’t believe a wedding planner doesn’t want to have her own wedding.”
"Planning a wedding is my job. I don't want our marriage to feel like just another day at the office."
“I can understand that.” Miles turns me around in my arms. “I’ve got both our bags and a cab on the way to pick us up.”
“You want to leave now?”
“I want to avoid a scene. So it's better to sneak out now and apologize later."
“Okay, if you say so.” I pull out of Miles’s arms and turn around to face him.
Miles takes my hand in his and leads me out of the ballroom. “Let’s go start our life together, my future wife.”
I look down at the beautiful emerald diamond engagement ring Miles gave me. “I’m ready, my future husband.”
