“Thank you, Tia.”

As Spider backed out of the driveway and headed down the street, his wife and her aunt kept talking.

“So you have everything you want now, yes? A bakery—”

“Two bakeries,” Spider corrected.

“—a beautiful house,” Imelda continued, “a handsome husband. And now a college degree.”

Spider was skeptical about the handsome part, but he was fucking grateful that Daisy finally had her degree.

“It took me long enough, right? Maybe Dad will finally stop pestering me.”

“There’s always grad school,” Spider said.

“Bite your tongue.” She reached over and playfully hit his arm as Spider grinned.

It had taken her a long time, but the five years she’d been working on it had been filled with challenges, joy, disappointments, and triumphs.

It had been filled with life. And life didn’t always take a straight path.

He stretched his arm across the back of the bench seat and watched Daisy pin the black cap to her hair as they drove.

She was the light of his life. The best fucking thing that had ever been given to him. If she said she wanted the moon, Spider would figure out a way to steal it.

Then again, Daisy never asked for much.

So he could only give her everything.
