Grey looked to Flynn, hoping and praying his big brother would be accepting of his decision to marry Cora again.
Flynn gave a nod of approval. “Welcome back, Cora.”
Epilogue
One Year Later
Cora giggled as Grey swooped her into his arms before carrying her across the threshold of the house they’d just closed on. She’d moved into his rental house after they got married ten months ago, but now they had a place of their own. It felt amazing.
“Welcome home.” He set her on her feet and then kissed her in a way that was so sweet her heart sighed.
“I’m so glad we’re finally here.” She smiled up at him, more than content to never step out of his arms again.
He took her hand and led her through the maze of boxes in the living room. They had a lot of work to do to get the house together, but Cora didn’t mind.
He stopped in the hallway. “I have one more surprise for you.”
Cora blinked at him. “What kind of surprise is it?” She wracked her brain trying to think of what he might have up his sleeve but came up blank.
He led her into the kitchen and pulled a chair out for her. Once she was seated, he instructed her to close her eyes. “Keep them closed until I tell you to open them.” With that, he gave her a brief kiss and moved away from her.
She heard the back door open and close, followed by silence. A few minutes later, it opened again, and she could hear his footsteps on the kitchen floor. There was some shuffling before he finally said, “Okay, Cora. You can open your eyes now.”
She did then, and the first thing she saw was Grey’s smiling face. Something moved on the floor drawing her attention to their feet. There, staring up at her with hopeful eyes, was a golden retriever puppy. Its little tail wagged back and forth so fast, she wouldn’t have been surprised if it wore a spot on the floor.
Cora immediately knelt beside the puppy who didn’t hesitate to clamber onto her lap.
Grey sat down on the floor beside them. “He doesn’t have a name yet. I thought that, since you’ve always wanted a dog, you could choose a name for him.”
Tears flooded Cora’s eyes turning the puppy into a blur of yellow fur. His little pink tongue kept lapping at her hand as he settled across her legs, paws hanging off each side of her lap. He looked as though he had no intention of ever getting down. Several names went through her mind until she came to one that seemed to fit him perfectly.
“What about Chance? In honor of the beauty of second chances.”
“It’s perfect.” He kissed her then, but it didn’t last long because Chance gave them a kiss that spanned both of their chins. They broke apart, laughing.
Grey touched her right cheek with a single finger. “I love you, Cora.”
She smiled, her arms full and her heart nearly bursting. “I love you, too.”
