“Oh,” I sighed.

His lids fluttered closed, and a guttural moan rumbled in his throat. And then whatever control he had shattered. Hard and fast, he drove into me. Our bodies rolled, and a symphony of moans echoed through the room.

My nails scoured his back.

His teeth marked my neck.

It wasn’t long until we collapsed, panting and spent, into a pile of sated flesh.

“Jesus, woman,” he breathed, rolling off me.

“Don’t you Jesus, woman me. That was all your fault.”

His head popped up. “Uhhh, I didn’t start that. I brought you coffee and breakfast. Then you went little Ms. Jealous on me, which…” He paused. “Actually, you know what? I’ll take the blame. And you are very welcome.”

I laughed and turned into his side, kissing his firm chest before settling my head on his shoulder.

He returned my kiss with one on the top of my head. “I gotta go to the bathroom and take care of this,” he said, referring to the condom.

“Oh, right. Yeah.” I sat up and reluctantly let him go.

Staring up at the ceiling, I basked in how easy things were with Shane. I’d nearly had a panic attack, jumping to conclusions like an asshole, but he’d simply laughed and then caveman-carried me to his apartment for a quickie.

He came back carrying a glass of orange juice, took a sip, and then held it out to share with me. “I left your breakfast in your apartment, and unless Brock and Diesel out there want a show of my naked ass, you’re gonna have to settle for juice for a while.”

I sat up, propping myself against the headboard, and took his offering. Not because I was thirsty or hungry anymore, but because he was so damn sweet to be concerned about me having breakfast. I drained half the glass before passing it back.

He finished it and set it on his nightstand. “You want your clothes?”

I shook my head. “Not particularly. I have a few more minutes before I have to get back over there.”

“Check you out, stealing my style again.” He grinned, climbing back into the bed naked. “Mmmm,” he hummed after jostling me into his side, complete with dragging my leg over his hips. “There we go. That’s the good stuff.”

He wasn’t wrong, so I shifted in close and drew lazy circles over his chest.

“So you want to hear my theory on Jealous Maggie now?”

No. No. I absolutely did not want to talk about Jealous Maggie at all.

“Sure. This should be good,” I mumbled.

Using two fingers under my chin, he tilted my head up to look at him. My dread over discussing this not-at-all-embarrassing topic was momentarily quelled by one of my favorite lip twitches. “I think you like me,” he stated. “I think I panicked because I like you and then you panicked because you like me. And I think everybody likes everybody, and as soon as we can break the news to your boyfriend Door Guy Clarke, I think we could both just like each other.”

Heat blistered my cheeks because he was right. God, he was so right, but I pinched his chest in retaliation for the joke.

“Ouch!” He caught my hand and brought it to his mouth, where he kissed my palm. All humor vanished. “I am divorced though. And if you want to talk about it—”

“No. Stop. Please.” I pushed up onto an elbow and rested my chin on his pec. “It’s none of my business. I don’t want to back you into a corner and force you to tell me anything you’re not ready to. We have a really good thing going, Shane. And it’s natural and easy. We flow and bounce off each other. I don’t want to ruin that. I don’t care if you’re divorced. I’m sure it’s an absolutely riveting story, but let’s save it for when you’re ready to tell me.”

He nodded and tucked a rogue curl behind my ear. “I can do that.”

“Good,” I breathed, leaning down for a chaste kiss.

He stared at me for several beats, a comfortable silence falling over us.

Oh, but Shane couldn’t let it linger for long. “So, just to be clear. Can we bring it back to the ‘you like me’ thing? I feel like… I, uh, put a lot on the table just now, and you didn’t really give me a solid reply.”

This man was going to be the end of me.

“Yes. I like you.”

His mouth split into a breathtaking grin. “I knew it. You like me a lot, right?”

I swayed my head from side to side. “Uhhh, I wouldn’t go so far as to say a lot. But I like you enough.”

It was a bald-faced lie. I was in way over my head with this guy already. How I had gone from being forced out of my apartment by my sister to smitten in the course of a weekend, I’d never understand.
