Her a stepmother? It wasn’t something she had even thought about, but if she and Wolfe were truly meant to be together, then this child would also be a part of her life. “I will make sure you and this baby get to Kentucky safely. As for the rest, if you are certain you do not want Wolfe, then I intend to make my move.”
Luna’s smile widened. “Go for it.”
There was nothing else to say. Aurora left the room as quickly as she had entered it. She understood the complexity of the situation. As a woman, she should be furious that her man slept with another and now was expecting a child. Yet, she couldn’t muster anger or hatred for that situation. The world was different now. They were different. All she knew was her hormones had a mind of their own and she wanted Wolfe in a way she had never before.
Opening her senses, she searched for him. He wasn’t in his room, that much she knew. He was… Why the hell was he there?
She made her way outside, where the sun indicated it was mid-afternoon. Clouds rolled past, and the horizon threatened a storm that would likely turn the weather humid. There was no time to waste as she took off on a run and rushed past guards who were patrolling the area. She had only one thought in her mind. To get to Michael.
* * *
He wasn’t reallysure why he had come here. Wolfe had simply wandered off and the next thing he knew, he found himself standing inside the cathedral where Aurora had been living for the past year or more. Truth be told, he needed to see with his own eyes how she had to spend her days and nights. There was a mattress on the lower level and even a dresser. He wondered if Lilith had helped her carry the items inside and down the stairs.
He sensed her the second she stepped onto the property. Her scent carried to him, even though he was in the basement, and she smelled of arousal.
“Damn it!” He charged up the stairs. There was no way he could keep his distance. Not when she smelled so fuckable, and why was that? Was she here to torture him?
“What are you doing here?” she asked, stopping midway down the stairs. There was nowhere for him to go as she blocked his escape. Did he want to escape?
“I needed to see how you managed for the past year. Why did you come back here?” He took a step up.
“I was looking for you.” She took a step down so there was nothing between them.
“I see. Is there a problem?” Her scent blanketed him in sexual desire and his fangs dropped. Fuck his life. How was he supposed to deal with this? He didn’t seem to have much willpower when it came to her. Especially lately.
“Big problem, but I’m not in the mood to stand here on the stairs and discuss it.”
“Then what do you propose? We seem to be at a standstill here.”
She reached for the hem of her tank top and rolled it upward, exposing her firm stomach.
His fangs throbbed.
“It’s hot in this stairway so I propose you back your fine ass down the stairs.”
He wanted to fight the urge to obey her, but it was useless. Not taking his gaze off her for one second, he managed one booted foot behind the other until he was back on level ground. She had followed him every step. The sway of her hips like the strut of a female on the hunt for her male.
He found his voice. “This isn’t going to end well.”
“Oh, but I think it will end very well.” She stepped into him and placed her palms on his chest. The heat of her seared him.
“You see, I think it’s time for us to give into this desire between us.”
He closed his eyes and fisted his hands to keep from touching her. “We belong to other people. We can’t do this.”
“Do you really believe that?”
He opened his eyes and tilted his head slightly to look at her. The desire in her eyes said she was serious, and he was helpless when it came to her. Always had been. “I don’t know what to believe anymore.”
“Well, it seems everyone but us seems to think these markings we bear are for each other. Face it, Adam has zero feelings for me and other than a good meal, I have no inclination to be near him.” She licked her lips. “Luna thinks we belong together so much that she gave me permission to pursue you.”
“Seriously?” He knew deep down Luna had no feelings for him. At least not in that way, but he had remained faithful to her.
She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. “God, when I’m near you, I want nothing else but you. This damn mark burns nearly as bad as the rest of me right now.” She opened her eyes. “This is more than before. Way more than I ever felt when we were together. It’s almost like if I don’t have you, I might actually die a slow, painful death.”
She shook her head. “I know that sounds crazy.”
“No. I feel it too and I have no more strength left in me to resist you.” Already his desires chipped away at his resolve, so when she leaned in and kissed him, he lost all control.
