“Nice to meet you, Ella.” Then she continued down the walk.
“That one is trouble,” Lilith whispered.
“Why? Because she is doing her job? I expected we might run into patrol. You do know that Michael, I mean Wolfe, was a Navy Seal?”
“So?”
She just rolled her eyes. “Military special operations. Not everyone can become a Seal. It takes a lot of hard training, or what some might call torture, to weed out those who can make it. Therefore, I would fully expect him to have this place secure.”
Lilith grinned. “I like the torture part.”
“You would.” Lilith might be her friend, but she was still a demon and demons thrived on torture. She had learned a lot about them in the past year. Not a subject she thought to ever become an expert on.
When they finally approached the building, they were again greeted by a guard, but this time, Michael stepped out of nowhere.
“I knew you would come.” He smiled.
She felt her eye twitch as she demanded her feet stay planted right where they were. All she wanted to do was run into his arms and forget everything bad that had happened.
God, what am I doing here?
You’re here because deep down, no matter what, you are a good person.
Her mouth dropped open. “How did you do that?” It was definitely his voice that had been in her head.
“I am your sire and have a mental link to you and you to me. I don’t know why it wasn’t there before, but it is now.” He looked at Lilith. “Who is your friend?”
“This is Lilith. Lilith, this is Mi––Wolfe.” It was going to take some getting used to calling him by that name.
CHAPTERELEVEN
Wolfe glared at Lilith. There was something about her he didn’t like, and it wasn’t the fact she was a demon, though he had yet to encounter one he would trust his back to. It was something about her that made his skin crawl and left him with an inexplicable feeling of unrest.
“And how does a demon come to be your friend?”
Lilith stepped forward. “When her sire abandons her to blood lust, and I have to step in and care for her.”
“I have no recollection of changing her.” He wondered if there were others he had changed or worse, during his haze. There was no doubt in his mind he had taken several lives. Fucking Arsenia. "I would never have left her alone otherwise."
“That may be so, and your own sire abandoned you, but it still does not make up for the fact you were not there. I was.”
Yeah, he could see she was going to be a big pain in his fucking ass. Her overprotection might very well cause issues, therefore, she had to go. “Well, I thank you for taking care of Aurora, but she is here now, and I will make right by my mistake. You can say your goodbyes and take your leave.”
“She’s not going anywhere but where I go.” Aurora crossed her arms and stared him down. Her eyes flashed with blue fire.
“Is that so?”
“It is. So, make your choice. Both of us stay, or both of us leave.”
Aurora had always been a stubborn spitfire when she was passionate about something and apparently, this was going to be one of them. It was no use in arguing with her. Not if he wanted her to stay, and he did. Desperately.
“Fine, but any trouble and I will not hesitate to take your head off.” He lowered his fangs and stared the demon down.
“I don’t fear your blade, and I’ll not be any trouble so long as you do nothing to harm Aurora.” She lowered her own fangs. “Or you will have me to answer to.”
“Oh, for fuck's sake. Will you two stop this pissing match?” She rubbed at her wrist. The one with her marking and his heart sank deep into the pit of his stomach. She belonged to someone else, as did he.
“Where is Adam? Has he gotten back from his mission yet?”
