It only took another second for the vehicles to surround them and come to a halt. A dune buggy outfitted with a machine gun was in front and the barrel was pointed at them.

“If you value your life, you’ll drop those weapons.” A greasy-looking male with stringy blond hair stood from the passenger seat of the buggy and stared them down.

“Do as he says. We can’t take them all without risking the females,” Wolfe whispered as he stood and Noah followed, tossing their rifles to the ground and raising their hands in the air.

A male jumped from another vehicle and grabbed the rifles. There was nothing they could do with all those weapons pointed at them. Fuck, he wished he could communicate with Noah, but his sire was Xavier. Instead, he reached out to his mate.

Aurora?

Here, and I see what’s going on.

Can you freeze them?

I’m not sure. There are a lot of them, and I’ve never tried that many at once from behind a wall.

“What are you doing here?” The greasy male demanded as two other thugs shoved them both to their knees.

“We’re heading to Vegas. We only stopped here because we saw a threat on the horizon.”

My power isn’t working with this building in the way!

Don’t let them near you and Luna.He knew damn well these were not the type of men to be honorable. They would take Luna and Aurora and pass them from one man to another until there was nothing left of the females. Then, they would slit their throats. Wolfe swallowed his fear and fell into his training. He only wished he could communicate with Noah. He’d never tested a long-distance call to his friend, but now seemed like a good time to try it.

Xavier! He shoved all his primordial power down the link to his brethren.

Wolfe? Is that you?

It’s me.He gave a sigh of relief. They had a crystal-clear connection.I need you to see if you can reach Noah. We are in a situation with some rebel humans.

“Are you human, demon, or vampire?” Greasy man asked.

Wolfe had the feeling any answer other than a human wouldn’t bode well for them. Not that bullets would kill him, but taking his head off sure as fuck would.

“Human, otherwise, we wouldn’t be out here in the blazing fucking sun.” He was going to hope the asshole might know about vampires turning to ash in the sunlight.

The man laughed.

Wolfe, I can’t reach Noah. He’s too far away. Where are you?

You are not coming after us. We are too far away for you to be of any help, and that is a direct order. He then slammed a door down on his link and shut Xavier out, praying his friend followed instructions.

“I’ve seen vampires in the sun. Killed a few too, cuz there’s no room in this world for freaks of fucking nature.” Greasy guy jerked Wolfe’s attention back to him.

“You killed vampires? I thought that was impossible?” By this time, he and Noah had been bound using handcuffs.

Greasy guy leaned down and stared Wolfe in the eyes. “Not when you take their heads clean off. No coming back from that.”

“No, I suppose not.”

Wolfe? What’s going on out there? I feel… Odd.

His gut said something was seriously wrong. He tested his restraints and found himself unable to break them.

Aurora, I can’t break the cuffs they put on us.For the first time in a long time, panic settled in his gut.

CHAPTEREIGHTEEN

Wolfe’s wordssettled in her mind, but she had a hard time registering their meaning. How was it he couldn’t break free of a pair of handcuffs?
