Adam was hesitant, but he was a fair man and reached for her. “That sounds good.”
“My name is Aurora, and I am a vampire. I understand I’m the only female to be turned.”
Adam gave a nod. “Adam. Nice to meet you. I hear you got a mating mark after biting me?”
They had already let their fingers slide away from each other so Aurora held up her right wrist and Wolfe tried not to snarl when she showed the faint lines. “Seems I did.”
He hated that mark on her as much as he hated his own. Both were reminders they were no longer in control of their own damn fate.
“I don’t know much about mating marks,” Adam said. “But I’m open to getting to know you better. Perhaps we can talk later?”
“That sounds good. Can we meet up at dinner?”
“Sure. I’ll meet you by the fountain in the lobby.” He gave a nod. “See you later.”
“Fountain?” She looked at Wolfe, one brow raised.
“There’s an old fountain on the other side of the lobby. Of course, it no longer functions. I can show you where it is if you’d like.”
“I’m sure I can manage on my own. Been doing that for the past year.”
Ouch. He was pretty sure that dagger was aimed at his back. “I thought Lilith had been helping you?”
“Oh, she helped me in the beginning, but for the past several months, I’ve managed on my own just fine.”
He was about to respond when Xavier saved him from saying something stupid by speaking up.
“We need to discuss Aurora’s special talents.”
“Fine, let’s go outside. The generators will be shut down in a few minutes.” He only allowed them to run for a short time each evening to conserve fuel. Soon, the equipment would be silent forever, and then they would have to figure out what to do next.
Outside, he led them down the sidewalk, past his guards, and across the street to the old library. Since he didn’t sense anyone in there, it seemed like a good place to talk. Vampires had excellent hearing, and he assumed this conversation needed to remain between them. Temporarily, at least. When they were inside, he walked to the back of the building and pointed to the seating area in the corner.
“This should be a good spot.”
Aurora was the first to take a seat, followed by Xavier then himself.
“I’ll get right to the point, but Aurora can follow up on any questions we have. She has confided in me that she has the ability to stop time.”
Wolfe stared at his friend before he put his focus on the female who haunted his sleep. “Come again?”
“I’ll explain as best as I can.” Aurora shared the story of meeting up with Adam and his team. How she used her power to freeze the men while she put Adam in a trance and fed from him.
“Holy shit. Is this for real?”
Her lips pressed tightly together, an indicator she was irritated. “Why would I make it up? It’s the reason I’m here. Ashley told me I was needed to help you. Well, help Luna and the baby.”
“Can you demonstrate this?” he asked.
She looked between him and Xavier, concern filled her eyes. “I can, but you won’t remember a thing about it.”
“I volunteer as long as you promise not to keep me in that state forever.” Xavier flashed a smile. The man was afraid of nothing, and even less so since he’d become a vampire.
“I can free you at will.”
He pulled back his shoulders. “Then proceed when you’re ready.”
“Very well.” Her brows furrowed, and that was when a ripple of magic caused Wolfe’s skin to warm and tingle. It was very similar to that which he experienced when the Angel of Death had been wielding her own powers.
