“Hell if I know.” He scrubbed his fingers through his hair and walked the small room. “From what I was able to get from the others, it started with only one of them and got stronger after sex.” He stopped to look at her. Fuck, she was hot with her baby bump and full breasts. Was his desire because of the mark or simply because he was a male in need of wetting his dick? That desire had gotten them in this situation in the first place. Then again, Luna couldn’t get any more pregnant.
“You’re looking at me like you want to devour me.” She took a step back. “Not a good idea.”
“You’re right. Drinking from you couldn’t be good for the baby or you.”
“I was referring to fucking.” She wiped the back of her neck, which turned him on even more.
Jesus. Get your shit together!
“My hormones are wild right now and I wouldn’t be able to say no.” She held up a hand. “Not that I’m saying we never should. Simply with that mark on your wrist, we need to be careful. I have enough to think about right now.”
He nodded. “You’re right.” He looked toward the door. “Get some rest. We can talk more later.” He leaned down and kissed her forehead, then left.
As he headed back into his room, he examined how it felt to kiss Luna. While he had every desire to protect her, and he had wanted to strip her naked and fuck her, he wasn’t sure those desires were what he would consider over the top. Ryder had confessed to him that the urges he had after his mating mark appeared were nearly blinding.
Wolfe didn’t feel blindsided, but he felt something. He just wasn’t certain what it was exactly.
CHAPTERSEVEN
As Aurora watchedthe men move out, a sudden burning had her scratching at the underside of her right wrist. “Owe, what the hell?”
When she looked down, expecting a bug bite or sting, she was greeted with faint black lines. “Oh my god!” Panic set her heart racing as she rubbed and rubbed on her wrist. “This can’t be what I think it is.”
While she had never seen a mating mark, Lilith had told her about them. It was a thing between demons, a way of finding your fated mate or some such bullshit. But she wasn’t a demon. Well, she had demon blood in her, she supposed, since vampires were created by a demon. Looking back at the men who were now only specks in the distance, her heart sank. She needed to see Lilith right away and sort this mess out.
Taking off at a run, she retraced her steps and headed back to where Lilith slept. Not a place she much cared for, but desperate times and all of that. After she made her way back onto the school grounds, she opened the door to the building and stepped inside. The place reeked of Sulphur, piss and mold. Awesome combination for her vampire senses. She was tempted to turn around, but the burning mark on her wrist reminded her why she had dared enter.
As she rounded the corner, her eyes widened at what she saw. A massive figure, its skin a deep obsidian black and covered in leathery wrinkles, faced her. Two blazing red eyes set deep in a skull-like face seemed to bore into her soul as an inhumanly long tongue flickered out between thick, cracked lips lined with sharp yellow teeth. And there was no mistaking the giant erection that seemed to twitch as he stared at her.
“You come near me with that, and it will be the last time you ever lay eyes on it.” To push her point home, she pulled the dagger strapped to her right thigh from its sheath and brandished it. “I’m sure there’s something in this place that would love to have a cock for dinner.”
The demon stepped back, whimpering, as he lowered his gaze to the floor.
“That’s right. Vampire here.” She strode past him with her head held high and her dagger in her palm. Lilith had taught her that many lower demons feared vampires. It was the ones higher up the chain she had to worry about.
Continuing down the hall, she was only a short distance from where Lilith resided. Her friend was the top demon in this place and had taken up shelter in the library. Apparently, Lilith enjoyed reading as much as Aurora did.
As she slipped into the library, shadows of overgrown bushes flickered on the floor like ghosts from the past. Only small dapples of light filtered in, giving the place an eerie glow. A second later, she sensed Lilith standing behind her. She spun.
“We need to talk.”
The demon jacked a brow. “I assumed since you are here, it must be urgent for you to have entered a demon dwelling.”
Aurora shoved out her wrist. No sense in beating the damn bush. “What is this?”
Lilith’s gaze flicked to the marking on Aurora’s wrist and immediately the demon’s lips pressed together. “What the hell did you do?” She looked back at Aurora, her gaze demanding a quick reply.
“Drank from one of the humans staying at the hotel. This showed up minutes later and my skin feels like someone is holding a lit match to it.”
“Well, it seems you have located your mate.”
“The human?”
“Who else? Unless there were others you drank from?” There was that questioning gaze again.
“You were my last.” Fuck, while she liked Lilith and they often had great orgasms together, she was not in the mood to mate the demon.
“Do not worry yourself, I am not your mate.” Lilith crossed her arms. “As if that would be a terrible thing?”
