"I know the one."

He nodded. "It's a pretty large group of humans and vampires. A vampire named Wolfe is in charge. I’m sure he’ll offer you the same safety guarantee he does for the other women.”

“Sounds like something I need to check out.” No sense in telling him she had already started her own recon. “Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to talk to this Wolfe you speak of.”

It was all she could do to keep her fangs at bay. She was so hungry. Another step closer and she was within reach to wield her power. She concentrated on the air around the four men behind Adam. They would be slightly stunned and paralyzed for as long as she could hold them, giving her time to get Adam away from them. Her power flared wide and cast a net over the five men. The four to the back were frozen in time while Adam, who stood at the front, appeared dazed and probably confused.

“I don’t intend you any harm,” she whispered as she slid in next to him and ran her nose along his neck. Fuck, he smelled delicious. “I only need a taste and then you can be on your way.”

“Take whatever you need,” he replied.

“You are too kind.” She struck fast. Her fangs slid into his salty skin and hints of chocolate and mint caressed her tastebuds as she swallowed. Dear god he was like a decadent piece of candy, and she wanted to devour him, but after three pulls, she retracted her fangs and sealed the puncture. Her sex was on fire and the desire to fuck him right here in the street made her take a step back. She needed to get herself under control.

“What plans does your leader Wolfe have for the women under his care?”

Adam squinted. “No plans other than what they agreed to.”

“Which was?” She urged.

“To eventually settle down and have children. Or, they can choose to have children with different fathers. It’s up to them.”

Well, considering she hadn’t had a period since she’d been changed, she didn’t think she was having any kids. Not unless there was some other way a vampire got pregnant. Then she recalled Lilith’s statement about demons and then not wanting to talk about it. Some days, she wanted to strangle that demon.

“Sounds fair enough.” She shot a glance at the four men behind them, making sure they were still frozen in place. Yep, her power was strong today since this was the most people she had ever held at one time. She wondered if it had anything to do with the fact she was now a year into being a vampire. So much she didn’t know and wondered how much this Wolfe and his other vampires might shed light on.

“You will not remember our encounter. Be safe on your journey.” She ran from them and when she was far enough away, she released her hold. She stayed close enough to watch and be certain they came out of their stupor without incident. The men shook their heads and looked around, but then hurried down the street.

Wolfe was jerkedfrom his sleep by a burning on his wrist. “Son of a bitch!” He scratched at it as the sleep left his eyes, then focused on what was causing him so much pain.

“Fuck!”

He gritted his teeth as he felt the heat rising in his cheeks. With trembling hands, he frantically rubbed at the black mark on the underside of his right wrist. Despite his best efforts, it refused to fade away––a reminder of what everyone had been talking about for weeks. There, staring back at him, were the unmistakable lines of an infinity heart. A clear sign he and Luna were meant to be together. His chest tightened as he wondered if she too bore this symbol of their bond.

A prickle of energy crawled across his skin and caused him to jerk his sight toward the heavily covered window.

Xavier, did you feel that?

I’m a little busy at the moment.

The tone in his friend’s mental voice was clear that Xavier was not to be disturbed. He must still be fucking and feeding. Fine. Wolfe shut down his mental link and went to the window. Sucking in a breath, he dragged the curtain aside to allow him a peek. The position of the sun showed it was still morning and as far as he could tell, nothing looked out of the ordinary. Yet nothing was ordinary in this world anymore. He had a fucking mating mark, and he had not imagined the slide of power over his skin. Was that what happened when you received a mark? He had no one to ask.

Storming back to the bed, he reached down and grabbed his jeans, then slipped them on, snapping them as he stepped into the hall. Luna was in the room next to his, so he was at her door and knocking in two steps, already knowing full well she was there. He sensed her heartbeat and that of his child’s. A moment later he heard the deadbolt unlock, and the door opened.

“Why are you not sleeping?” Luna greeted him wearing a cropped top that showed her thickening waist and a pair of shorts. He had to admit, she stirred carnal desires inside him. Then again, he had not been with a woman since he found out she was carrying his child. Somehow it didn’t feel right, no matter how much he needed to sink his dick into the warm depths of a female. Hell, it might also have something to do with the fucking mark he now sported. But it still didn’t mean he loved her.

“I was, but… We need to talk. Can I come in?”

“Of course.” She moved aside, and he brushed past her. Once he stood in the middle of the room, she closed the door. “You look like you might have seen a ghost or something.”

Might as well get straight to it. He shoved out his wrist. “This showed up just a little bit ago. Do you have one?”

She stepped closer, her gaze wide as she stared at his wrist. “Is that what I think it is?”

“I assume so, since it fits the description and burns like a motherfucker.”

She raised her hands and looked at the backsides of both wrists. “Nothing. No burning anywhere either.” She flicked her gaze back to him. “What does this all mean?”
