“You’re frightening me.”
He took her hand. “Don’t be afraid. It’s not bad news. It’s simply that your ancestry is rather unique.”
“Okay, then just spill it.”
“Lomara, as Aimee said, was betrothed to Orien. The Concosa killed her on my birthday celebration, along with my parents.”
“Oh, I’m so sorry.”
“That’s not all. Lomara didn’t wish to wed my brother, but she was bound by duty. We both were even though we were in love. Lomara was a female that comes along once in a male’s lifetime. She was my soulmate and I hers, yet we were not destined to be together.”
Her heart ached for Zander while it also hurt that he had a soulmate. The feelings bouncing around inside her contradicted each other and left her confused. Why should she care he had once loved so intensely? “I am sorry for both you and your brother. What an awful predicament to be in. I still don’t understand how that affects me.”
“Lomara was not your ancestor, she was you in another lifetime.”
She was stunned silent until the full force of what he said hit her. The laughter erupted into a full-on snort. “What?”
“I know it sounds crazy to you, but not to a Valarian. Important people have been reincarnated before.”
The fire that sizzled between their entwined hands caused her to look and make sure there was nothing actually burning. There wasn’t. It was pure heat and, if she were to admit it, desire. Was this why she had wanted him so badly? She didn’t believe in reincarnation. When you died, that was it. She jerked her hand away and jumped from her seat. Distance. She needed a lot between herself and the man sitting there looking like he wanted to devour her.
“There is no such thing. Even if there were, I don’t remember you or Orien. All I recall is the man I left behind when I was taken from my life.” She slapped her hands on her hips. “Which I want back.” Closing her eyes, she took in a calming breath. “I am sorry you both think I am the woman you lost long ago. I really am, but I promise you, I am not her.”
CHAPTER13
It did not surprise Zander Sheila didn’t believe him. Hell, it was farfetched even for him, and he knew reincarnation was possible. His soul knew it was his Lomara.
“The ruins. The etching you were attracted to. I lied about what it was.”
She focused her gaze on him. “What did it say then?”
“When Oshivana wakens, a young prince will regain what he once lost. A baby will be reborn until she is found, and, in these walls, the two shall reunite.”
Her jaw dropped before she regained herself. “That could mean a lot of things.”
“It could, but I am a young prince who lost his true love, and you and I were there together.”
She paced. “I could say that Orien lost his true love as well.”
“True, except Orien never really loved Lomara, not like I did.” He stood. “She was to be his wife, but in name only.” He moved closer to her. “Ask yourself why your body reacts as it does when I kiss you.”
“When can I leave here?”
She was in denial. Orien had shared with them that her magic was bound. Likely locked away by her parents to keep her safe. Were her memories also locked with her power? What would it take to open the floodgates? There had to be something to the etchings on the stone, else why would they be there? He had not misread them, but he wanted to go back.
“When it’s safe for you.” He stormed from the room, his frustration a bitter taste in his mouth. It surprised him she hadn’t followed him, but she likely needed time to process everything. Right now, he was on a mission to locate Fang, which he quickly did by summoning the Daldara demon to him at the outer edge of the palace.
“Zander.” Fang gave a bow. “How may I assist my prince?”
“We need to make a quick trip back to the ruins.”
Fang’s brow jerked up. “I am guessing this has something to do with the female, since we already collected the items from your camp and covered your tracks.”
“It does. I wish to see the etchings once more and have you tell me I am not crazy.”
The demon’s other brow joined the first. “Telling my prince that heiscrazy is not a wise thing for me to do.”
“Don’t blow me shit. I know full fucking well you never mince words. Now, let’s go.”
