“Then let us not waste another second.” She made a slice across her left palm and watched the blood well up. He then took the dagger from her and made a slice over his heart. Once his blood welled, she placed her palm over his wound, their blood mingling together, then she spoke.
“Blood that is yours, blood that is mine. Blood lies between us, blood is the bind. I summon the life forces and command our fates intertwine and let this blood between us forever bind. Bonded by blood, now bonded two souls. Blood flows together, making us whole.”
The ball of fire in her gut swelled until she could no longer stand straight. Doubling over in pain, she clutched her stomach and tried to breathe through it. Zander, now her mate, stood by as there was nothing for him to do to help her. Luckily, it lasted only a minute and then faded away.
“We are now bonded,” she said, and even the air in the room felt different. There was a charge of power that hadn’t been there before.
“Atlantis is pleased with our union,” Zander said.
“So she is. How about we go shower?”
The twinkle in his eye said they would be doing more than showering.
CHAPTER18
Lysandra stared at herself in the mirror. After the bonding, she noticed slight changes. Her hair was softer and so blonde it was nearly silver. Her eye color, while still blue, now held flecks of silver and depending on her mood, would change color. The rest of her looked the same, but it was a little strange staring at herself. She had held many lifetimes of knowledge and it all felt perfectly normal to her.
“I still cannot believe you are a demigoddess,” Aimee called from behind her. “Does all of this freak you out?”
“Did you freak when you found out you were mating a demon and a future king?” Bethany sat in a chair, bouncing her son on her knee.
“Right. Dumb question.”
Lysandra turned to face the two women who had stopped to visit and talk about the future. “I know I should be freaked out, as you say, but for the first time, I feel settled. I realize in all my other lives, something was always missing, but, of course, I could never put my finger on it.” She moved to sit in a seat across from them. “From this moment forward, I must be known as Lysandra. It is the name my father gave me upon my birth and means liberator.”
Both girls nodded.
“I understand. Just bear with me if I slip,” Bethany said. “I will say I am glad to have another protector here watching over Aimee. She can be a handful, deciding to suddenly go shopping in the human world.”
The queen shot her best friend a glare. “Whatever. You know you still love a good shopping spree.”
Bethany shrugged. “I do need to look good standing beside my queen.”
Aimee snorted. “Okay. Anyway, what’s next? You said earlier that you might be able to help find your missing sister.”
“First, I want to visit Uuna. I have not laid eyes on her since this city was thrown into chaos. After that, the three of us will need to go above and I will see if I can sense her.”
“The three of us?” Bethany asked.
“Yes. Together, we are stronger.”
“The guys are going to freak out,” Aimee said.
Bethany rolled her eyes. “No shit. Dealing with two of them was bad enough. Now we have to add Zander to the mix.”
“I don’t understand. Why would Zander freak out? I’m a demigoddess and much stronger than the last time I was there.”
“Ha!” Bethany blurted out. “You’ve been mated all of five minutes and have yet to witness a demon freak out. They don’t care if you can take out Zolar with your pinky, they simply don’t like their mates being placed in any danger.”
Aimee nodded. “She’s right. Don’t think we are going topside without them tagging along, or at the very least, an argument.”
She thought about what they said for a moment and recalled how the mated Valarian males were sometimes pig headed. “Then we will compromise. The king must stay here, which means Fang will need to stay behind as well. We can take Zander and a few of the guards if necessary.” She rose to her feet. “If you will excuse me, I wish to see Uuna.”
Aimee rose. “Yes, of course. Please send her our regards. I hope she looks better than when I last saw her.”
“It is my hope I can aid her somehow.”
“Well, I hope you can. I feel awful that she has been alone for so long.”
