“Are you all right?”
“I…” She flew into his arms. “I have never been so happy to see you, but how did you know?”
He squeezed her to him. “I felt your distress. Blood bond, remember?”
“Blood bond, of course.” She tried to push away, but he held tight. “I came for you, Sheila. I will always come for you.”
She leaned back and looked up at him. “I think that might be the first time you called me by my name.”
“I have a feeling there will be many firsts for us.” He reluctantly let her go but took her hand in his. “What about him?” He jerked his head toward the human, who was splayed out on the floor.
“He didn’t even attempt to save me, but is he all right?”
“He’s passed out cold. Pussy of a human,” Fang muttered.
“Do you wish to stay here with him?” He hated asking, but knew he had to.
She shook her head. “Things have changed. I’ve changed and I suppose he has, too.” Sighing, she continued. “Besides, I am not safe here and neither is anyone else I’m around. They were watching him, waiting for me to come back here.”
“I would never have put you in that kind of danger.”
“Are you saying your brother did this intentionally?”
“No. He wanted to grant you freedom, so he might gain favor with you.”
Her brow jacked up. “I see. Are the two of you competing for me? Do you really think I am this woman you lost so long ago?”
“We have a lot to discuss, but not here. If you agree, we will go back to Atlantis.”
She nodded. “But what about Jeff?”
“We will erase his memories of this. He will still think you are missing and even if Zolar’s goons come back, they will quickly realize he knows nothing.”
She chewed her lip. “I don’t know. I mean, will he really be safe? He has a connection to me, after all.”
Zander tried not to growl at the fact this human male was now going to become a pain in his ass. “We can’t take him with us, but Talon will stay behind and guard him.” He looked at the still passed-out human. “Besides, I don’t think he could handle any more excitement.”
“I suppose you’re right, but Zolar will now know I am with you. I’m a danger to everyone.” She was chewing her lip again, and he just wanted to kiss her.
“You let me worry about that.”
“But what about Greydon and Aimee? Fang and Bethany, and their baby? They will all be in danger because of me.”
Now she was looking for excuses, and their time was running out. He didn’t want a face to face with Zolar, so he did the first thing that came to him. He scooped her up in his arms. “We’re done discussing this.” He had a portal open before she could protest and had them back in Atlantis in a blink.
“Zander! Put me down!”
“Is she injured?” Aimee ran toward them.
“I’m fine and can stand on my own.” She gave him a slap on the chest, but it only amused him.
“I left Fang and Talon to look over the human,” he said to Aimee as he finally set Sheila back on her feet, missing the warmth of her body next to his. That was something he was going to rectify very soon.
“How many were there?” Greydon had finally arrived.
“Six and their leader, who managed to get away.”
“Then Zolar must already know she is with us,” Greydon replied. “The city is strong and so are we. I hold no fear of him getting to us while we are here. Outside of Atlantis, that’s obviously another concern.”
