“Just because she didn’t fall for you charms doesn’t mean she’s troublesome.”
The feline harrumphed. “She hasn’t spoken to me in three days.”
“What did you do?”
“He flirted with one of his former conquests,” Brine supplied.
Chesh glared at him. “I did not flirt. She came tome.Plus, why should it matter? It’s not as if I’m mated or courting anyone.”
“But you want to be,” Scarlet stated. She’d seen how Chesh had been looking at Ari over the last few months.
“She’s doesn’t want me. Why waste my time?”
“If they’re worth waiting for, you wait,” Brine replied resolutely. “Have you tried speaking with her?”
Scarlet snorted and elbowed her mate in the ribs. “Speak with her? You’re one to talk. You make rocks look downright chatty.”
“I speak with her all the time,” Chesh exploded, throwing his hands in the air. “She just gets mad and storms off.”
“Trying to seduce Ari is not the same as asking about her life or what’s on her mind,” Scarlet retorted.
The feline sighed. “It doesn’t really matter anyway. If she was meant to be my mate, it would have happened already.”
Brine pulled Scarlet into his side. “It’s not some magical bond. Mates scenting only shows physical compatibility. A relationship takes real work.” He glanced down at Scarlet and smiled. “But it is so rewarding.”
“Oh yeah?” Scarlet whispered.
“Yeah,” he murmured before swooping down for another kiss. “Marriage to you is the best life ever.”
