What are you going to do?

I’m respecting her wishes and giving her time.

River

I don’t think that’s a good idea.

Romeo

I agree. Time is never anyone’s friend.

King

Don’tmake me give you more examples of how time can be a good thing.

I’m setting my phone down. Taking the dog out for a hike. I’m fine.

I gotRoddy ready for a hike and managed to check my phone eight hundred fucking times while I was gone, hoping she’d call and tell me what the fuck was up. I was like a lame teenage girl with a crush.

Pathetic.

A weak pussy.

Savannah had me spun around the axle, and I didn’t know what to do with it.

After I got home, I drank a big glass of water and dropped to sit at the table. Sabrina had called to tell me we’d received two offers on this house, which had shocked me. It had only been listed for a few days, but she’d shown it multiple times. She said that she’d emailed the offers to me.

My eyes widened as I took in the first one, which was a full-price offer. The second offer was a few thousand dollars under asking, but they’d made a cash offer.

I replied and asked her to check and make sure the first offer was someone who’d been prequalified, and she said they had.

I wanted to run it by Savannah, but she didn’t even know I’d listed the house at this point.

While she wanted time, I was making plans.

Plans for our future.

Plans I intended to keep.

. . .

Savannah

I wasn’t sleeping well, and I knew the only way things were going to get better was to talk to Hayes.

To rip off the bandage.

Avoiding the conversation, avoiding my husband, the man I loved, certainly wasn’t working.

This just wasn’t a conversation I could have over the phone.

I knew my pulling away had hurt him, and I felt sick about it. Saylor had been messaging me every day, and she’d let me know that Hayes was shutting down. She thought he was struggling with me being gone, but she didn’t know the half of it.

I was an asshole.

A big, pregnant asshole.
