Charlie
…Yes?
Hazel
ooh this sounds interesting. Please enlighten us.
I blow out a breath.Here goes nothing.
Me
I need you to take Amelia to brunch at Cate’s Bistro the day before her birthday. There’s a jewelry store on the same block. I’ve already talked to the owner and gave him my card information. Take her in there to look at rings. He’ll set aside the one she chooses. But don’t make it obvious that she’s picking out her engagement ring.
Hazel
WHAT! OH MY GOD! JUDD DAVIS ARE YOU GOING TO PROPOSE?
Charlie
Holy shit, I did not see this coming so soon. Why so soon? Is she pregnant!?
Me
No she’s not pregnant. In light of recent events we’ve decided life is short and we’re going to start living in the moment. I know I want Amelia by my side for the rest of my life. So why wait?
Charlie
Wow. I’m really happy for you Judd. Leave it with us.
Me
Just don’t make it obvious that this is what I’m planning.
Hazel
We won’t TRUST us. We won’t let you down :::winking face:::
Me
I know you won’t. Oh and Charlie, I gave the jeweler your name and told him you would be the one to pick it up. I was hoping you could put together one of your ‘Charlie Special’ picnic baskets and tuck the ring box in it?
Charlie
You got it Judd.
With that taken care of, I stuff my phone in my pocket and clip the leash back on Bruno and head back inside. After we get inside our apartment, Bruno immediately heads for his bed, turning three or four times before he finally lays down. His strength has been coming back little by little each day, but all the excitement from today has worn him out.
I leave him to sleep and head into our bedroom, looking for Amelia. The suite is empty, but I hear water running inthe bathroom. When I open the door, all the lights are off and candles are lit and set up around the tub, casting Amelia in a golden glow in the tub.
“There you are,” she says when she sees me, reaching for the knob to turn off the water. Steam billows up from the lava-like temperature.
I step further into the bathroom and walk over to the tub, kneeling down beside it. “Here I am.”
She gives me a sleepy, content smile. “Join me?”
Standing, I lean over the tub and lower my face to hers. She tips her head up to me, connecting our lips. She tastes like heaven. A mix of the dessert she had tonight and her, my favorite flavor.
“Is that a yes?” she asks when I pull back.
