Judd
You too ass hat.
Ah, brotherly love. I click over to my text thread with Lucy and send her a quick text.
Me
Can’t wait to see you tonight *kiss face emoji*
I’m surprised when she texts me back so quickly. She must be in between patients.
Lucy
Can’t wait to watch that fine ass all night.
Oh, flirty Lucy is out to play. I’ve noticed the more comfortable Lucy gets with me and our relationship, the more she’s been opening up, and I like what’s under the layers she’s hid.
Lucy
autocorrect* I mean I can’t wait to watch *you* play tonight *wink face emoji*
I laugh
Me
I think the first message was correct.
Lucy
*shoulder shrug emoji* I plead the 5th.
Me
I spoke to Charlie. She’s going to meet you at the ticket booth and bring you and Hudson to me so we can take the picture on the field.
Dale and I thought it would be best to get a picture before the game so he can send out the statement before the game even starts. I send her Charlie’s number since I won’t have my phone on me out on the field.
Me
Just send her a text when you get here.
Lucy
Ok. I gtg, my last patient is here. *kiss face emoji* I’ll see you soon.
I put my phone back in my locker. Lucy seems to be taking this in stride, which helps settle my nerves. Reese sits down at his locker, distracting me from my thoughts.
“You good man? You seem antsy,” he says, nodding to my leg that I didn’t even notice I was bouncing up and down.
I stop it and lean forward, taking a breath. “Yeah man, I’m good, just ready to get this thing going.”
“Well, we have a bit, wanna go jog off some nervous energy?”
I nod my head and we both head off to the gym off the locker room. We jump onto treadmills next to each other and start at a brisk walk, warming up our muscles.
“So,” Reese starts. “How are things going with Lucy? I know you’re going public with your relationship. How’s she handling that? How are you handling that?”
I blow out a breath and let my lips flap. “Things are great with Lucy. I know we’ve only been officially together for what? Four days? But I feel like I’ve known her forever. If I’m not with her, I want to be. We actually talked to Hudson the other night about me staying the night sometimes.” I laugh thinking back to the conversation with them the other night. “He asked if we were going to get married–Lucy broke a dish in the sink.”
