“What a game!” Hudson says for the third time since the game ended. “I hope Kessler Davis is here.” He’s mentioned that a few times as well.
We’re sitting in a room they set up for this meet and greet. There are snacks and drinks for us to enjoy while we wait for the players to join us.
Kara leans over and whispers “Me too” into my ear just loud enough for me to hear. I roll my eyes and give her arm a little tap with the back of my hand.
“Behave.” I warn her with a smirk.
She sighs. “You know I will. I can enjoy looking though.”
You won’t be the only one.
I keep that thought to myself. I don’t need to hear it from Kara. I love her to death, but she will never let me live it down if I admit that I do in fact find Kessler Davis attractive. I mean, I’m not dead. Anyone with a pulse can see how damn fine he is. With his beautiful forest green eyes, and eyelashes that should be illegal for a man to have. I bet he can wink the underwear right off a woman. Not to mention I am a complete sucker for a man with a beard. Not too long and burly of course, but a nice trimmed scruff. The kind that’ll leave a beard burn in all the right places. Don’t even get me started on the man’s arms. Whew, watching those forearm muscles twist and ripple when he’s catching. It’s enough to give me a lady boner.
“Earth to Lucy.” I hear Kara say as she waves her hand in front of my face.
Shit.
I blink my eyes a few times and turn my head towards her. “I’m sorry, what were you saying?”
“Where were you?” she asks with an amused look on her face
“Oh, uh, just…. Thinking about my schedule for the week,” I say, praying she doesn’t push further.
“Mmhmm, right.” She eyeballs me like she doesn’t believe me. She opens her mouth to say something else, but the doors open and some of the players start trickling in, putting a stop to her questioning.
Thank you, Jesus.
All the boys grow quiet and their eyes widen at being in such close vicinity to the players. The PR rep introduces the players that are here to the boys. I quickly look to see if Kessler is among them, but don’t see him. Probably for the best. I don’t need to be caught ogling him by Kara or Hudson.
After a few minutes of awkwardness from the boys, they start to open up and chat with the players. Among the guys who showed up are Reese Hayes, Brent Attwood, and Duke Keller. I sit back and enjoy watching Hudson get to interact with the players. A little seed of resentment hits me in the stomach, but I push it away. Now is not the time for that. A few minutes later, Hudson walks over to me showing me the ball in his hand that has all the players’ names on it.
“Mom look,” he says, handing me the ball. “Can we get one of those plastic cases for it?” he asks with a hopeful look.
“Absolutely bud, I’ll order one tonight.”
The door to the event space opens again, when I look up to see who it is, my breath catches in my chest. Kessler Davis.
Holy hell.
He’s one hundred percent sexier in person. Our eyes lock for a brief second as he scans the space, and I feel a zap of energy hit me in the stomach.
Nope.
Shut that shit down girlfriend.
“MOM,” Hudson whisper-yells as he tugs on my arm. “It’s Kessler Davis!”
I give myself a mental shake and turn to Hudson. “I see that. Go talk to him.”
Hudson gives me the deer-in-headlights look and shakes his head. “I can’t,” he whispers, suddenly growing shy.
The other boys don’t waste any time and rush up to Kessler. He chuckles and starts signing what the boys shove in his face, answering their questions and laughing a sexy laugh that makes my insides do weird things. Hudson still hangs back fidgeting and scuffing the toe of his shoe on the floor.
“Come on,” I say, placing my hand on his back and gently guiding him over to Kessler. Hudson hesitates for a second, then gives into the pressure of my hand. We get in line behind the last of the boys and wait. When it’s our turn, Hudson just stands there and stares.
“Hey bud, got something for me to sign?”
