I groan. “Put on my big girl panties and own up to that shit,” I mutter.
“That’s right,” Kara says.
My phone pings with a text and I pull it from my ear to look. “He just sent me another text.”
“Ooo what’s it say?” Kara screeches into my ear.
“Jesus Kar, that was my ear.”
“Sorry, sorry,” she apologizes, lowering her voice, “I’m just so excited. Hey, isn’t it like two hours ahead there?”
“Yeah, he said he just got back to the hotel room when he first texted me.”
“Aww, he’s staying up late to talk to you,” she croons. “How cute! Now what does the text say?”
“Just hold your horses lady,” I say, switching over to the speaker and clicking on the text.

I read Kara the text.
“What does he mean by that?” she asks.
I read her the texts Kessler and I sent to each other.
“Girl, you didn’t text him back?”
“Uh NO! I called you and had my freak out after I realized I freaking like this man.”
“OK, you’ve had your freak out. Now text him back! Tell him how you feel even.”
I huff. “I’ll text him back, but I’m not ready to tell him just yet. I need some time for it to sink in.”
“Mull it over, sleep on it. Whatever. But Luce, don’t hide your feelings. You deserve to be happy.”
“Why does everyone think I’m not happy? I’m freaking happy damn it.”
Kara laughs. “Yeah, it totally sounds like it. And I didn’t say you weren’t happy. I just meant,you deserve to share your life with someone.” She pauses and quietly adds, “You don’t have to be alone.”
I sigh. “Neither do you Kar, but I get what you’re saying. Thank you, for always being here to talk me through my thoughts.”
“Hey, what are chosen sisters for? Now, text that fine specimen of a man back.”
I laugh. “Ok, ok. Night girly.”
I hang up and pull up my text thread with Kessler.
