I put my phone on silent and put it in my desk drawer. I push all thoughts of Kessler out of my brain and get to work.

It's 12:30 before I stop for lunch. The morning has been busy, as usual, but it makes the day go by quickly, so I don’t mind. I take my phone out of my drawer and see my screen full of notifications. I click on the text thread from Kara.

Is Davis off the Market?
Kessler Davis, star catcher for the Silverbacks, was recently spotted at a little league practice on Wednesday, looking awfully comfy with their coach, Lucy Carver, 31. Carver and her team were recently seen at a Silverbacks game, where they met some of the players afterward for an outreach program the team runs. Did Davis and Carver hit it off there?
I scroll down and see the team picture with the MLB players from Monday. The next picture is of me and Kessler at practice Wednesday. It was taken when he was helping me with my swing. From the picture, it looks like we’re having an intimate moment, and was completely taken out of context.

This is why I don’t do relationships, especially with ballplayers. There’s no privacy and I don’t need anyone digging into my life. I scroll down to finish the rest of the article.
We reached out to Davis’ agent who denied any relationship, saying it’s just a part of Davis’ mission of giving back to the community.
It goes on to list past things Kessler has done over the years to give back to the community. I click out of the article, feeling like an idiot. Of course, Kessler doesn’t want a relationship with me. I knew it and I allowed myself to get sucked in. This is probably just a fun game for him. Once he’s bored, he’ll toss me to the side.
But his feelings felt real at dinner.
