I walked into the kitchen smelling the familiar scent of waffles. I grabbed my mug and joined him at the table. I pushed the envelope over to him and watched him pick it up with a frown.

"What's this?" He asked, lowering his cutlery and started opening the envelope.

He pulled out the pregnancy test I used when I started to suspect I was pregnant followed by the ultrasound I had to take when I went to see the doctor.

"You're pregnant?" He asked.

I nodded. "Six weeks,"

He stared at me unlinked. "But you are on birth control," He noted.

I shrugged. "It seems your swimmers were a lot stronger,"

He chuckled and turned his chair so that he was facing me. "But what about your career? It's something you've always dreamt about, Zoey,"

"And I've lived it," I won't be able to go back after the birth but I wasn't scared.

"But I've also dreamt about having a family," I cradled his face between my hands.

"Baby, I don't want you giving up on your dream. I already know how hard it has been for you to get where you are,"

"I am not giving up. But I am taking a step back. I want this. I want you. I want to raise our child and give her or him what my father gave me," I know the memories I had of him were blurry but I remember being his best friend.

The doorbell chimed making Duncan chuckle. "That's probably them,"

"It's open!" I yelled, not letting Duncan get up.

"Does me being pregnant make it uncomfortable for you?" I asked, hoping he wasn't regretting it.

He blinked looking taken aback. "Of course not. I want to have a family with you. Hell, I would have waited years for you before you were ready. I am even open to adopting. You know that,"

"It's just. I know what living your dream means to you,"

A tear slipped from my eye at his consideration. "And you mean so much more,"

My life dream was always about chasing football until Duncan Jones crossed my path. He helped me live that life to the fullest extent.
