I raise an eyebrow at Dax, looking for any indication he doesn’t want me to have the chance at beating his ex-fiancée to a pulp. He gives me none. Instead, he looks as though he approves.

My wolf purrs at the opportunity.

Don’t threaten me with a good time.

Chapter Seventeen

Dax

Olivia doesn’t give a warning or hesitate to lunge at Alaina. It takes everything in me not to intervene knowing Olivia’s next move. I remind myself these lessons are better had now in training than a real fight.

Olivia slices at Alaina’s arm, instantly drawing blood. Alaina clutches her arm. Olivia’s eyes calm as she stares at the blood, no indication she’s losing control indicating her years as a vampire. Olivia walks to Alaina, grabs her hand covering the bleeding wound, licks the blood off her fingers, and smiles.

Some may might find that hot. Man or woman, I don’t like to share my mate.

Alaina backhands her, causing her head to whip to the side at the force. Alaina doesn’t wait for her to recover. Instead, she hits her with a right hook before sweeping her legs so she lands flat on her face.

Alaina looks at me.

My little wolf is handling herself well against Olivia. Pride surges through me as Alaina knocks Olivia to the ground.

“That’s my girl.”

Alaina smiles at my praise, then turns and raises her eyebrow at Olivia, whose eyes are no longer that beady red I detest, but now, they match her heart, cold and full of darkness.

Olivia doesn’t intend to accept defeat when it comes to me. I saw her plan to seduce me even after I ended the engagement, which is part of the reason I wanted Alaina to fight her today.Olivia needs to see Alaina will rule beside me.And kick her ass if she tries anything.Alaina’s constant efforts to pull away from me haven’t helped in deterring Olivia from recognizing she doesn’t have a chance.

Mate is stubborn but sexy as hell.

Olivia’s plan plays out like a movie in front of me.

Olivia uses the hatred Alaina has for her against her to make her jealous. She does this by getting close, threatening to mark me.

Olivia remains ignorant of my abilities—something my pack waspolitelyordered not to breathe a word of lest they want to die. I want Olivia to show me who she truly is.

I allow her to play out her plan. Olivia doesn’t have the balls to mark me without my permission. She may be conniving, but she’s also desperate for my attention and approval. The moment she met me, she intended on having me, not letting anyone get in her way, Sam included.

Sam hates vampires as much as I do; his mother was killed by a vampire when he was young. On top of Olivia being a manipulative wench, it didn’t take much for Sam to become protective over me and hate her.

Olivia caught on to Sam’s intention to make her time here worse by telling her when she’s missed a bloodstain on her face and that she smells like she’s a rotting, dead corpse. It’s juvenile but effective. She has a short temper.

Alaina lunges at Olivia, but she ducks away and slithers behind me, with her fangs uncomfortably close to my neck. Remnants of blood and flesh lingering on Olivia’s breath makes me want to gag.

I don’t move. Olivia’s intention may not be pure, but the lesson is there. I need to see how my mate manages her emotions in the heat of a fight.

When Alaina’s jealous, her nose scrunches, and she gets this look that’d make a lesser man cower. It’s fucking sexy as hell. I may just have found the motivation for my stubborn mate to accept me.

A vision of Alaina’s plan to rip Olivia’s throat plays out before my eyes.

Alaina lunges forward in incredible speed, a blur of fur as she shifts and twists me to the side away from the threat. Her wolf roars as she tears Olivia’s throat out, then spits out the vile flesh and muscles.

My little wolf radiates with possessive claim over me, even if she’s unwilling to admit so to herself.

My wolf nods. She can hold her own in a fight, which eases my mind. Alaina and Olivia sparring holds ulterior motives; it allows me to determine just how I need to protect her if it comes down to her presence at my side in a battle.

Truthfully, I won’t care if Olivia dies. I even contemplate letting Alaina wreak havoc by killing Olivia. I know I’d enjoy the possessive act for her king, but the kingdom doesn’t need a war with the vampires.

I smirk and move toward Alaina. Sparks ignite when I grab her, and she relaxes at my touch. She makes that sound of possessiveness for her king that hardened my cock at dinner last night. I love that Alaina has a desire to kill anyone to protect her mate because I would do the same for her and more.
