He quirked a brow. “Sharp objects, is it?”

“I like those fangs of yours, don’t I?” She winked for the first time in years.

He leaned closer, swiping his tongue across them. Her body pulsed when he did that.

Soren smirked. “I thought you were angry.”

I am.

Your eyes are telling me otherwise.

Scowling, she said,“Why’d you tell Christof we were together?” As if a council meeting was the best time to define their relationship.

“Are we not?”

“We never talked about it.”

Soren moved closer, hovering his lips an inch before hers. “If I haven’t made myself clear, Thessa. I want nothing but you.”

With her heart practically thumping out of her chest, she said, “Then, I suppose, we’re in agreement,” and her mouth met his. It was a simple, yet defining kiss.

“Come on,” he said smiling, “I’ll show you to Sinclaire’s tent.”

Thessa squealed.

The Trial Room was as she’d remembered it. Cast in sleek marble from floor to ceiling, the oval-shaped space held three empty thrones.

Thessa grimaced, padding past the podium and through the domed door in back.

Urgh,where are they?

They’re not in there?

No. Empty.

The fact that she and Soren could still speak through their bond in her astral form was not something she’d expected. She wondered if it had something to do with her feed last night, amplifying their connection.

Let me focus.

And then he was gone.

Walking down the empty hall was discomforting, at best. Sconces flickered firelight, but there were no guards in sight … which led her to believe the Supremes felt safe behind these walls.

Must feel nice.

Noise set in and Thessa followed the sounds. There was clinking and chatter. When the voices rang loudest, she paused before a door, listening.

“May I get you anything else, General Valstrom?”
