“N—”

I slammed my mouth to hers in a dominating kiss, thrusting my tongue inside her mouth and demanding she give me all of her. I sucked in a hiss when she bit my lip, making me jerk away.

“I hate you,” she seethed, wiping my blood from her lips.

“I have no doubt about that.”

Her eyes blazed with defiance.

“Tell me,” I ground out. “Tell me why you’re going to Detroit.”

“Personal reasons,” she finally said after a long moment of glaring at me.

“How long?”

“You don’townme, Tony. And there’s nothing you can do tocoerceme into telling you.”

I tightened my grip. “If you want to keep your career, I do.”

“There are some things more important than a career.”

She stepped out of my hold, and I let her go. Grinding my teeth together, I tamped down my rage.

“I can find out, you know?” I told her in a low, dark voice. “You have your methods of getting information and so do I.”

Pulling the strap of her bag up onto her shoulder, Chantelle turned on her heel and moved towards the door. “Just leave it, Tony. There’s nothing you can do to save me—at least not this time.” She took in a deep breath and let it out, wincing like it was painful. “This is just something I have to do.”

As she shut the door behind her, I cursed, swiping up my sweats and pulling them on. She said I couldn’t save her? Well, that’s where she was wrong.

There was something more to this and I was going to fucking find out.
