P: No, I’ll be right down.

True to her text, Pru came walking out the front door of the complex less than a minute later. She had on her college sweatshirt over a pair of black leggings and brown ankle boots, the pair his mother had given her for her birthday last year.

“Isn’t it a little warm for a sweatshirt?” he asked as she hopped into the car.

Fall had arrived with the changing of months, but November still held temperatures in the high fifties to low sixties most days in Colorado. Not sweater weather by any means. Hell, he was still wandering around in shorts and T-shirt most days. He’d worn jeans today because he’d once again forgotten to do laundry and he was down to his last few clean items of clothing.

“The building is freezing,” she complained, pulling the sweatshirt over and off her head. “The AC is cranked full blast because maintenance is doing a blow-out thing with the vents or something. I don’t know. All I know is it’s an iceberg in there.”

He tried to respond, but his throat suddenly swelled to the point of closure. The moment Pru took her sweatshirt off, his eyes were drawn to her chest like a moth to a flame. Hard not to stare considering his best friend was spilling out of her low-cut V-neck T-shirt. The polite thing to do would be to look away, but he couldn’t.

He remembered those breasts. He’d held them, tasted them, reveled in their absolute magnificence. And there they were again, tempting him, causing a scorching fire low in his belly, making him burn and ache for just one more touch, one more taste.

“Finn, hello. Earth to Finn. Please pay attention to the woman attached to the boobs.”

Heat rose on his face all the way to the tips of his ears. He shook his head, clearing his throat and somehow dragging his gaze from her chest to her face. Thankfully, Pru looked amused rather than pissed.

“Um, sorry.” He shrugged, then decided he’d already been caught so he might as well ask. “Damn, Pru. Have they always been that big?”

She glanced down at her chest with a frown. “No. It’s like they have a mind of their own. I’m growing out of all my bras, and these damn things keep popping out of my shirts like a wildly inappropriate game of peek-a-boob.”

He couldn’t stop a laugh from escaping his lips.

“It’s not funny, Finn. Do you know how expensive bras are?”

No, they’d never been on his shopping list. He’d never even bought lingerie for a woman before, which had always seemed like a dick move to him. Here, have some super uncomfortable underwear that I’m going to stare at for five seconds before I strip it off your body. Why not just get naked? Naked was good.

And thinking of naked, underwear, and breasts while sitting a foot away from Pru, who was currently pregnant with his twins after they’d had a night of the most amazing sex he could remember in a damn long time, proved to be a very bad idea if the hardening of a certain part of his anatomy was anything to go by. He adjusted his position in the driver’s seat, tamping down his inappropriate thoughts.

“So, where to?” he asked.

“Let’s go to Colorado Mills. A new baby store just opened in the mall, and they’re having a sale.”

Sounded good to him.

They headed out of the city to the nearby suburb where the giant mall was located. Finn parked the car and followed Pru’s lead as she navigated the massive building, heading with a focused purpose toward their destination.

“Hello, welcome to Then Comes Baby.” A middle-aged woman with a pleasant smile and box braids pulled up into a high bun on the top of her head greeted them. “Can I help you find anything?”

“I saw online you were having a BOGO sale on baby clothes?”

The woman’s smile grew as she glanced down to Pru’s stomach. “Yes, dear. And all the sale items come with a thirty-day return policy with gift receipt. Shopping for someone else or yourself?”

“Me.”

“Congratulations.”

“It’s twins.” He had no idea why he blurted that out. Pru and the saleswoman had been handling the conversation fine, ignoring him completely. Maybe he just wanted to feel like a part of it all.

“Well, then.” The woman’s dark brows went up. “Mommy and Daddy certainly came to the right store. You’re going to need two of everything.”

Mommy and Daddy. That sounded… He wasn’t quite sure. Not wrong, per se, but odd.

“Yup, two of everything.”

He glanced over to Pru as those soft words left her with none of the usual bravado she normally spoke with. Her skin had paled. He didn’t know if it was due to the Mommy and Daddy comment or the double baby reminder. He reached out, grasping her hand and bringing it to his lips. Her gaze shot to him in a question.

“Come on, Mommy. Let’s go check out what we need for our little Thing One and Thing Two.”
