Chapter Five

Jasper watched me approach, but most of the wariness I’d seen on him was gone. In its place was the same need, the primal desire that had been relentlessly pushing me in his direction since we’d met.

“You like watching.” Emboldened by the shot of tequila, I pushed at his chest, urging him to sit on the bar stool behind him. He resisted for a moment before complying, spreading his legs wide enough that I could nestle myself between them.

“I like lots of things.” He hissed out a breath, just the smallest of reactions, as I placed a hand on each of his thighs, rubbing my palms over the defined muscles.

He didn’t push me away.

“Show me.”

“You don’t know what you’re asking for.” His voice, more whiskey than steel as he looked down at me, was full of warning.

“That’s a cop-out.” I licked my lips, tasting tequila. “Tell me.”

Without warning, his hand shot out and palmed my breast. I gasped as with his other hand he pulled me flush against his torso, the soft curves of my stomach to his groin.

My eyes widened as he pulled me closer still, rubbing me back and forth over—oh man. I’d felt his hardness against me earlier, but right now, as he deliberately shifted me along his length, I felt the need gathering tight at the base of my spine.

With sure fingers, he tugged the right side of my dress down. The bra that I wore beneath was white lace and thin, and when he ran his thumb over my nipple, a pulse of heat shot straight from his caress to my core.

“Jasper!” I was pressed against his chest, but we were sitting in the middle of a bar that was crowded with people. “What are you doing?”

My words were shocked, but I betrayed myself by pressing into his palm. He laughed, a low, dark sound, and dampness surged between my legs.

“Yeah, I like to watch.” Without warning, he pulled back and tugged my dress into position. I was left staring up at him with wide eyes and shaky hands. “I like to be watched, too. Like I said, Cari, I like a lot of things. You’ve been pushing me all day, and I’m about to break, so make sure you understand. If we do this, I’m going to want those things with you.”

He probably expected that little speech to discourage me. If he got to know me better, he’d find out that I saw challenges like a bull sees red flags.

I’d made up my mind—I wanted him. Wanted whatever he would give me. And if he was going to continue to skirt around the subject with these mysterious Christian Grey-like comments that told me nothing, I was just going to have to be persuasive.

The sandals he’d mocked earlier raised me up a couple of inches over my usual height, but even with him sitting I had to stand on my toes. Reaching out blindly toward the bar, I grabbed one of the wedges of lime I’d left there earlier.

“Cari.” I ignored his warning, instead holding up my prize.

“I didn’t finish my shot properly.” Before he could pull away, I rubbed the lime over his skin. The tart scent hit my nose, combining with the musk of his skin and making my mouth water. “Let’s see. Salt…did that. Tequila…did that, too. That just leaves lime.”

He said nothing, just watched with those pale eyes as I leaned in and licked him, running my tongue up the cord of his neck. I felt him shudder beneath my lips before I pulled away, making a show of biting into what was left of the lime wedge.

“Mmm.” I tossed the used-up slice of fruit back onto the bar and smiled wickedly up at him. It had been so long since I’d done this kind of dance, the one between two people who wanted each other on a level so deep it felt almost primal. “Want some?”

“Enough.” One strong arm pulled me against him again, banding me against his chest and keeping me there. With his other hand he wrapped the length of my ponytail around his fingers and pulled. I gasped at the sting in my scalp as he turned my face up for a kiss.

This was nothing like our kiss behind the motel earlier. That one had felt like he was giving in to my teasing, a man pushed past reasonable limits. But this?

He was, without a doubt, in charge of every aspect of this kiss—which way my head was angled, when I was permitted to breathe, how far my lips would part to welcome his tongue.

I lost track of time as he claimed me in that most basic of ways, pulling back only when he broke the embrace. We stared each other down, and I thought I could read everything he wasn’t saying in the ferocious gaze that threatened to swallow me whole.

With another of those breathtakingly quick movements, he released my ponytail and cupped my ass with his hands. I cried out, the sound swallowed as he lifted me right off my feet, wrapping my legs around his waist as he stood.

“Jasper, what are you doing?” Several heads turned. I saw Jackson at the other end of the bar. He lifted his beer in salute with a wicked grin. Remembering his words about taking his cock in his hand as he thought about me with Jasper made me flush, and I buried my face in his neck. He only laughed, the sound swallowed up in the noise of the crowd.

“Don’t you understand yet? I like it better if they watch.”

Oh God.

Carrying me across the bar, he headed for an open doorway. Members of my team were probably there, watching me play Tarzan and Jane with what to them would seem a stranger, and normally I would be mortified. I wasn’t the kind of woman to let a man carry me anywhere, let alone claim me the way he was obviously doing.
