A shiver runs along my spine and down my legs to the tips of my toes. He’s not the only one getting turned on.

As if on cue, another round of vodka shots arrives.

“Okay.” The tingles in my stomach are far from okay, but being with him sure beats watching a stripper who can move his pecs to the beat of the music. Yes, he already showed us that trick. I hope no other appendage does the same thing. I’d rather skip that part.

And let’s be real for a minute. Nathaniel is gorgeous. I’d wonder if he worked outside with his muscled physique and sun-streaked hair, but his hands are too smooth for manual labor. Granny would say his hair was kissed by the sun angel to explain the light brown shade with all the blond highlights. He must have a talented hair colorist or just be blessed by the color gods.

I love the style too, very businesslike, shorter at the sides and longer on top. Now, after a couple of drinks, his hair is sexily messed up, which makes me want to run my fingers through it. I fight the urge and remind myself that’s the alcohol talking, so I need to be careful.

Of course, his loosened tie and rolled-up shirtsleeves make him even hotter; like a sexy boss who might lay you over his desk and fuck you hard. Well, not any of my bosses. They’d be too worried about a sexual harassment lawsuit, and rightly so, but with Nathaniel, I’m willing to fantasize.

He doesn’t strike me as the asshole boss type, though. He’s giving me too much attention. Most bosses only care that you make them look good by working your ass off for them while they take the credit. As long as you do that, they don’t want to know anything about you. Not Nathaniel.

“So if you’re not into bachelorette parties, what are you into?” he asks.

His question and the way he doesn’t glance away when we talk really does something to me. He seems genuinely interested in what I have to say and not leering in a creepy way. His intense stare draws me in, and his twinkling blue eyes are locked onto mine like there’s nowhere he’d rather be. “Right now, I might be into you.”

“I like that answer.”

So do I. Ali and her guests can suck on their penis-shaped straws and enjoy the rest of the evening with the strippers. I’m sticking with Nathaniel for as long as he’ll have me.

“Another round?” the bartender asks us.

I nod, but Nathaniel shakes his head. A couple of minutes later, the bartender places another vodka shot in front of me.

I pick up my glass, hope I’m not making a big mistake, and down it. I stare at Nathaniel. “Thanks for all the drinks.”

“You’re welcome, but it’s my pleasure.” He sips his beer. “What do you do for work?”

I groan. If I wasn’t holding my glass, I’d make a cross with my arms to ward off the discussion. “No work talk, please.”

“You sure?”

“Positive.”

As if on cue, the bartender places a beer in front of me. Good. Too many shots wouldn’t be a smart idea.

I motion to the two beers on the bar. “Our drinks say it all, according to our bartender.”

Nathaniel shrugs. “If you say so. Although you’re probably right. My work is turning into another nightmare.”

“A nightmare you shouldn’t have to discuss in a bar.”

Nathaniel lifts his beer and salutes. “Okay by me.”

“So tell me about your ex-wife.” I take another pull on mine.

He stares at me with wide eyes. “Oh God, how do you know about her?”

For a second, I’m tempted to tell him I’m a psychic, but that wouldn’t be right. “Overheard you talking to the bartender.”

Nathaniel groans and covers his face with his hand. “I’m sorry.”

“I’m the one who eavesdropped.” I grin, not thinking he would be so embarrassed, but I’m glad I told the truth about how I knew. I like that he’s not afraid to show his emotions. “You didn’t know I was listening. That means you didn’t say all that to the bartender so I’d feel sorry for you.”

He places his hand on top of mine as if he’s aghast. His expression doesn’t doesn’t stop a current of electricity from shooting up my arm. “Men do that?”

“Some men believe women are suckers for a sob story.”
