“We need to talk,” he says quietly.
“You do know my client is the one suing you?”
“Ha, yes, and what a bullshit claim that is. Seriously, Jayne, you need to think carefully about associating yourself with that man and company. They’re cheats and charlatans who wouldn’t know a unique idea if it hit them in the face.”
I remain silent because his argument is legitimate. The elevator descends, finally shuddering to a stop at the street level. We follow the man with the ponytail out, and I turn toward the exit. Nathaniel grabs my arm and pulls me to a corner hidden by a huge potted plant.
His eyes are dark as he drags me against his chest. “Tell me the truth. Do you really think there’s nothing between us?”
I open my mouth to answer, but Nathaniel’s mouth lands on mine, and he kisses me. It’s hard, brutal if I’m being honest, with his hand at the back of my head. My lips part, and I’m powerless to push him away. I’ve been dreaming about kissing him. I wouldn’t push him away if I could. As his tongue duels with mine, sending heat and lust throughout my body, Nathaniel’s hand moves to my ass. He pulls me closer to his groin, and when I feel how hard he is, I moan.
I want him. Nothing else matters except being able to be with him again. I press my lips harder against his.
Nathaniel pulls away, leaving me breathless. His eyes are still dark. “Now tell me that you’re not fucking into me.”
Oh, shit. As I think of something to say, triumph gleams in his eyes.
Bastard.
I open my mouth, but before I can say a word, he storms away, leaving me frustrated and not in a good way.
CHAPTER SEVEN
NATE
That woman! I want to… I’m not sure what I want to do to her except kiss her again. And that fucking sucks.
As I leave the courthouse, I get the feeling Jayne’s following me. That makes me smile. It proves she’s lying about being into me and also means the kiss was as good as I thought it was. In fact, it hadn’t just been good; our kiss had been hot as hell.
I wait on the corner for the light to change, and even though a bunch of people are behind us, I know she’s still there. I haven’t turned to look, but I can feel her—sense her. No doubt, it’s that telepathy thing we had going the night we met. Our only time together until today.
Grinning, I cross the street with the crowd. Chancing a glance, I spot Jayne behind me. She’s gaining on me, but I have longer legs and she’s wearing high heels. As I enter the lobby of the hotel where I’m staying, I chuckle to myself. I have no idea what she wants to say to me, but I’ll make her work for it.
Fair? Not really, but I don’t like being caught off guard the way I was today. I increase my pace to reach the bank of elevators faster, press the UP button, and wait for Jayne. Within seconds, she’s standing by my side. Fuck. I can smell her.
“Wow,” I say. “This is déjà vu, don’t you think?”
“Are you staying here?” she snaps.
“Clearly, seeing as you followed me here.”
“I didn’t follow you here.”
I arch an eyebrow. “Well, you’re here, aren’t you?”
“Yes. I’m staying here.”
I take a step back. “You’re staying here too?”
“I wouldn’t be waiting for the elevator otherwise now, would I?”
I shrug. “I don’t know. Maybe you want to continue what we started at the courthouse.”
“I do not.” She rolls her eyes and looks like a petulant teenager. I half expect a foot stamp.
As the elevator arrives, we both walk inside, tension and electricity bouncing around us. She seems angry and tightly wound presumably from lust. I know because I feel the same way. She moves beside me, and I have to touch her again. I need to kiss her again.
“Ah, fuck it.” I pull her to me.
