Well, once I take care of Jack Parker and whoever else is trying to hurt the company, then I’ll have time to think about how to fill in what’s been missing from life.
I focus on the open page of my notebook where I’ve scribbled the names of the reporters at PharmaNews who have written articles about Zentello.
• Ernie Hemingway
• Fred S. Fitzgerald
• Eddie Poe
• Rudy Kipling
• Johnny M. Barry
• Emil Dickinson
• James Austen
• Andy Chekov
• Josh Le Carré
• Giovanni Bernard Shaw
• Jerry Davey Salinger
Based on my analysis of the writing style, syntax, and cadence, four reporters likely use those pen names. That matches what Christina Jenkins and Bradley Zimmer told me last year. She had a meeting or two with James Austen. Andy Chekov approached Bradley, and then both he and Christina met with Josh Le Carré and Giovanni Bernard Shaw.
Is one of those writers Jack Parker?
Only time will tell, but following Occam’s razor, the simplest explanation is often the right one. And in this case, it also makes the most sense.
I grab my pencil and add the new name to the list even though it’s not a pseudonym.
Jack Parker.
His name is so common. That’ll make searching for him more difficult, though Nate did mention photos. An image search might prove more fruitful.
But Mr. Parker isn’t the only thing I have to take care of. Right now, it’s time for damage control.
My fingers fly over the keyboard with such speed and accuracy that I’m impressed with myself. The email I’m writing has two purposes: to stop the magazine from using fake information in an article and to toss a wide net in hopes I catch Jack Parker.

Subject: Lab Notes insider at Zentello
On behalf of Nate Lowe and Mr. Z, co-CEOs of Zentello Pharmaceuticals, I am informing you that Ryan Matthews, a former employee, has been supplying confidential information to a member of your staff. The most recent letter he sold to you is false. It was concocted in order to identify the person responsible for the unauthorized release of information. Nothing, including the name of the trial participant, is real. The letter was written for the sole purpose of catching the person responsible for leaking company information. Should you choose to use what’s in the fraudulent letter, you’ll be hearing from our legal team.
If any of you know how to reach Jack Parker, please be sure he gets this information and have him get in touch with me at his earliest convenience.
Sincerely,
Zelda L., Executive Assistant to Nate Lowe
I schedule the email to send in an hour. Now, all I have to do is be patient and hope I hear from Jack Parker. PharmaNews has been a pain in my ass for way too long. My guess is Jack Parker is on staff and writes under one of the pseudonyms. Does he have the guts to contact me? I sure hope so. I can’t wait to take the asshole and the magazine down.
