Megan looked at Jax, who was talking with Ben and Jason, for permission. She was shocked she’d even thought about asking; she never asked anyone for permission. But everything seemed so grave at the moment that she wasn’t sure which way was up. Jax gave her a slight nod so she finally spoke. “Rambo was poisoned.”
“What?” Nelly asked, her eyes wide.
“Is he going to be okay?” Taylor asked.
“I don’t know,” she heard herself croak.
“No,” Nelly whispered, and began to sob. Taylor put an arm around her and asked, “But isn’t Ryan in jail? How can he poison someone while incarcerated? After the hell you went through last week, I thought everything was over.”
“Looks like either there’s a second stalker or he was working with someone else,” Megan said. “I don’t think we know yet.”
“Holy fuck.” Taylor said.
“So Jax wanted to change the schedule, I guess. I don’t even know what the plan is. I do know that I’m starved. He didn’t want me to eat room service last night. Just in case.”
“Oh God!” Nelly cried louder.
“S’okay, Nells. I’m sure he only wants me. Everything has been about me. Don’t worry.”
“I’m worried about you, you idiot. I don’t want to think of anything happening to you.”
“Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine.”
The tour bus was huge, easily accommodating the six of them, with one big bed at the back of the bus on a second floor of sorts, a small bed underneath the big one, and then three more small beds. One pulled out from the right wall; the couch underneath became a bed; and then there was another pullout on the left side. The small beds were—small.
“You guys are going to stay here? With us?” Nelly asked. The men, who were always serious, nodded. Nelly sat on one of the beds, which doubled as a sofa when they were awake. Like per usual, she was tapping the pillow, which she had propped on her lap as if it was a drum.
Taylor, who had a needle and thread in her hand, sat next to Nelly. “I figure you two called dibs on the big bed?” Taylor looked at Jax and then Megan.
“Yes,” Jax said, quickly. “Then I call the one on top.” Taylor pointed to the one right above where she currently sat.
“And I call the other one.” Nelly pointed to other bed on top, across from Taylor’s.
“Why do I get a feeling we just got the shit beds?” Jason said to Ben.
“Let’s just say, when these two,” Taylor pointed to Megan and Jax, “Start bumpin’ and grindin’, you’ll be the first to know.”
“I call that bed!” Ben quickly pointed to the bed that was currently being used as a couch, leaving Jason stuck with the bed under Jax and Megan.
“Damn . . .” Jason moaned.
“Oh, relax. We’re only going to sleep up there,” Megan said, rolling her eyes. No way would she have sex on a tour bus with four other people, and the driver, a few feet away. Plus, she was still sad over the loss of Rambo.
“Yeah, right.” Nelly said, still tapping. When she got nervous, the tapping always intensified and by the way she was beating that pillow, her stress level was obviously pretty high.
“So let’s talk about the stalker situation.” Taylor dove right in. “If Ryan didn’t do it, or didn’t do everything, who did?”
“No idea,” Megan replied. “I’ve been trying to think and I just don’t know. I mean, as far as people that don’t like me . . . I’m not sure. It has to be a fan who I don’t know, I think.”
“Ryan looks so familiar, though,” Nelly said, absentmindedly.
“You too?” Taylor added, looking at Nelly. “When I saw his face on the news I thought the same thing.”
“Wait? So you’ve both seen him before?” Jax asked, leaning forward, his forearms on his thighs.
“I don’t know. Maybe. I can’t place his face, but it’s familiar somehow,” Nelly said, glancing at Jason. When she noticed he was looking at her hands tapping, she quickly sat on them.
“Maybe you remember him from Amsterdam, where I first met him,” Megan offered.
