He laughed. “How ’bout I save you the embarrassment and you wear my gym shorts with the elastic waist.”
“Sounds like a plan.” She pulled his hair, and he crawled up her body and kissed her fiercely.
“I’ll go make us dinner. I didn’t buy potatoes, though.”
“I can live without the potatoes. I’ll help you cook.”
“Okay, so there is one thing you should be embarrassed about,” he began and her eyes furrowed. “Your complete and total lack of any sort of cooking ability.”
She laughed and threw a pillow at him on his way out of the room. “I’m going to go back and scour the internet for any photos of my concerts to see if I can find anything at all.”
“Good idea. Anything that seems off, you tell me.”

The next day, Megan sat outside on a lawn chair writing in her journal while Jax sat next to her, his laptop on his lap, going through all the notes from Ryan’s file his team had scraped together. The previous night they’d both spent hours and hours going through any photo they came across online, checking for anything unusual. Today he was focusing on the staff. Not just TNT’s staff but the label, the venues . . . everything he could think of.
“Find anything juicy?” she asked.
“He has a ton of photos of concerts on his hard drive. Most of them zoomed into you.”
She closed her notebook and slid in beside him on the lawn chair. “Creepy.”
“Yep,” he said, scrolling from photo to photo. “And the interesting thing about it is that they all look like they were shot from the side of the arena. Not from the audience.”
“As if he had a backstage pass?”
“Or like he worked there,” he said, and then he sat up, almost knocking her off the chair. “Hand me my phone, will ya?”
She reached over and picked up his phone from the small side table.
“Joey, I need you to find out if RLC Records ever used Spotlight Lighting and Production on tour. If so, I want to know whether Ryan was put to work on TNT’s 2014 tour during that time. . . . Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking too. Later.”
“What are you thinking?” she asked when he hung up.
“That he worked with you or for you.”
“I’d have known, I’d have remembered when I saw him after the tour.”
“Maybe he looked different. Maybe you weren’t paying attention to the crew.”
“I’m not such a diva I wouldn’t know who was working with us, Jax.”
“Well it’s worth a check,” he said, kissing her shoulder and placing the laptop on the floor. “And you’re kind of a diva, baby.”
“Am not.”
“Really?” He flipped them both over, Megan on her back and Jax hovering over her. “I’m going to fall!” she yelped.
“Overdramatic too.”
“Am not.”
He pushed her shirt up and sucked a nipple into his mouth, causing her to arch. “And too talkative.”
“Shut up and do that again.” She pushed his head down into her chest.
He slid one hand between them and rubbed her over her shorts. “Oh, that feels good.”
